I got my laptop today 4102, everythings is good so far except for a dead pixel at the left hand side of the screen.
I tried to play an avi video clip on my hard drive and win media player plays it in weird blue/glossy colour. replayed it after restarting and its still the same. I tried power dvd which comes with the laptop and it plays fine. I tried playing other avi as well and media player has no problem with it. I was able to play that particular clip on my old laptop with no such problem.
Anyone know whats the reason for that?
My old runs xp home, integrated intel graphics adapter and media player 9.00.00.3008.
My new 4102 runs xp pro sp2, ati x700 with 64mb and media player 9.00.00.3025.

If the same video clip plays fine with other players and other systems, it's most likely a codec problem (too old maybe). If PowerDVD uses its own codec to play the files, this could explain why it works here and not in Media Player. The other video files could be encoded with a different codec, that's why they work and the 1st one doesn't. If this is an AVI (and is newer), it's most likely encoded with DivX or XViD or some other form of an MPG4 codec. You can download these codecs for free. Try getting the new DivX codec from www.DivX.com and try installing it and see if it helps. This codec should play XViD encodec files as well.

Thanks, i will give it a try.

Hi its me again. I tried installing the divx from the link but the problem remains, although i can play the file using the divx player itself. I tried downloading other codecs and installing it but its all the same, the problem is still there.
I read the faq from the divx site as below;
4.6 Picture is green/distorted/corrupted when playing DivX movies UPDATED
The problem is usually that the DivX movie you're trying to play is encoded using a newer version of the DivX codec than the one installed on your system. You should first of all make sure that you have the latest version of the DivX codec installed.
If simply upgrading the DivX codec doesn't help, the problem is most likely that another DirectShow filter which isn't fully compatible with DivX is overriding the DivX codec for playback. To find out which filter/codec is actually being used to decode the movie you should download GSpot and open the movie you are having problems playing. After loading the movie into GSpot, use the "Render" option at the bottom of the program and look at the value of the "Video path". If the video path says "DivX Decoder Filter" then the installed DivX codec is being used to decode the movie, so either the codec is outdated or the file is damaged/corrupt. If the video path says "ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder" or anything else then you need to figure out how to disable this filter/codec.
I used the Gspot as stated to look at the codec being used and its as below;

HELP ME PLEASE. -
Hi ifie, I have 4102 too but don't have such problems.
My notebook graphic card is ATI Radeon X700.
Actually I had something similar problem with my old twinhead notebook.
I ran a burn-in test for all my hardwares (cpu, ram, graphic, sound, ports, and etc..) and ended up playing all movies in grey and green colour.
I've later reformated and reinstalled the OS, but haven't tried whether the problem is still there.
I will try it later and let you know about it. -
I downloaded the codecs for media player 7.5 and above from microsoft's site and the glossy playback issue is resolved. Weird thing is that somehow the media player on my new laptop doesn't seem to like fastforwarding via the slider and get stuck whenever i try to do that, whereas there is no problem on my old 1ghz/128mb/16mb integrated graphics TM 613tx! Powerdvd and the Divx player doesn't get stuck as easily when i do the fastforward via the slider on my new laptop though!
Weird it seems! Any clue why it is doing that? Can't be hardware fault can it?
blue/glossy playback on media player
