Hello there...I have had my Acer laptop for about a year and I am tired of the non-vista compatiblity I have run into on recording hardware/software. I know they are making strides into getting things compatible; but at my price point and counting in all the other factors; xp is a better way to go for me.
Yesterday I wiped the hard drive clean with DBAN and then installed XP. I installed all the drivers that the manufacturer site gave me. Everything seemed to be working but my wireless connection. I did a system check however and found that about half of my drivers were proper and half were not. I turned off the computer because at that point I had spent way too much time for one day on it. I came back this morning and it wouldnt boot up. It would go about 1/2 way into starting and then hang there. I tried hitting F2 to go into setup but it would hang on that as well. I tried using Killdisk which worked for about 25% and then it hung up as well. Any suggestions? The model # is Acer 3100 1718.
And at the risk of looking stupid I will add this. All my other computers came with a restore disk. I made the (dumba$$) assumption that I had one for the Acer. I don't. I can order one for $30; but that will just put me back at square one with what i dont want-Vista. This might be a complete noob question I realize so thanks for the patience and any info/help you can give.
John
