here is my *problem*
I have a TM2700, with the following config: Ati IGP radeon 9000, 2x256MB RAM, [email protected] GHz, Toshiba HDD@40GB, Mat****a UJDA760 combo drive. The BIOS is a Phoenix, v1.09.
After few days, while I left the PC in hibernate state, when I first booted, the BIOS detected wrongly the combo drive; here it is what in the summary screan appears:
ATAPI Model Name: ]JLA?68 LVL/KDZW(((((-(SM)
ATAPI Serial Number: ((((((((((
Everything else is OK in the BIOS.
I also know that the HDD is connected as primary master, and the combo is secondary master.
Because of this, windows (XP pro) says Error10: the device cannot start. So no CD drive.
I tryed *restarts
*load bios defaults
*enabling/disabling hibernate + restarts
*removing the power plug (no battery) -- this worked a time, or two.
But now, I lost it again (after using hibernate -- or at least that is the connection I found)!
I am pretty sure that the problem is with the Mat****a drive, because something similar happened before, with a Math****a DVD drive, on another PC. Removing the drive, rebooting, and replugging worked then, but it was a normal workstation, and I had enough BIOS setting available.
So, can anyone help? Any ideeas? Someone else found this problem too?
Oh, and a BIOS reset (jumper, bios battery remove, or something like that) would help? And details about removing the back plates, etc.
Please help!!
Thank you!verheat:

Did you try reinstalling the device from the Device Manager?
Right Click 'My Computer' > 'Properties' > 'Hardware' tab > click 'Device Manager' > under CD/DVD drives, is your device listed? If so, right click it, and make sure it is enabled. If it isn't enabled, then there's your problem. If it is enabled, try the following:
Right click your cd drive > click 'Properties' > 'Driver' tab > uninstall and restart. Windows will recognize it on startup and reinstall it automatically.
If this doesn't work, please let me know and I'll think of something else to help you! -
Well... if the bios doesn't get it right, windows has no clue! As I said, it appears in device manager, but it says Code 10 - Device cannot start. And it has a pretty funny name too..MIT[HITI UJDI7>0(D^D/CLR...
Disabling/enabling device didn't worked.
Removing, reinstalling, didn't worked, because win always detects it like above.
I can't open the back, because I'll try to remove the drive, and install it, and check the cables!
Any ideeas, greatly appreciated -
Could try to see if there is an update for your ide drivers. How about Add/Remove Hardware. It may re-install corrupted files. Might also want try System Restore to roll it back to when it was working properly if it is a software issue. Last case scenario, a fresh install of Windows. If you do a fresh install of Windows and it still isn't working, it is most likely a hardware isuue. Good Luck.

I reinstalled windows too.. and linux! (at a little time window, when it worked again, magically, without any explanation) No luck!
This is NOT a windows problem, since the BIOS has the errors.
I will try now updating the bios, hoing that this way will clear the wrong settings.. although if the bios autodetects the drives at boot... this is useless! -

Yes, your best course of action would be to update the BIOS - I did it on my machine, and it fixed various issues throughout my system.
Have fun!
