Hi there,
I got this card, seller said it is from a 8920G.
Acer MXM models and cards post says 8920G is MXM III - the card itself looks like any other ATI 3650 MXM (II) card I saw so far - only that it has a model number with trailing .004 instead of .003.
Problem is, I can't get it to work in a (non) Acer laptop - a picky Compal FL90.
Can anyone confirm that the VG.86M06.004 is indeed MXM III.
That could explain why it is not working for me - or maybe someone knows a model (other than the 8920G) in which the VG.86M06.004 is known to work.
It well could be that the cards is dead, but I would like to know for sure.
Thanks in advance
Cheers

MXM II and III are different sizes, so you should be able to just look and see.

Well, that's what I thought, but the card looks like a MXM II card, and the seller said it was from an Acer 8920G.
The Acer MXM Models and Cards post says the 8920G is MXM III.
Also, the web gets me cards that have a MXM II - like form factor when seaching for "8920G ATI 3650".
I am confused - problem is, I do not know which information is right - I also found a source that says 8920G is MXM II or MXM III !?!?! Is that "and-or" or "xor" ...
Thanks for any comments

Its a size progression. mxm iii mschines can aldo fit type ii cards, these were much more common.

MXM 2.1 is the pinout used on MXM II, III, IV & V unless someone wrote MXM III B or A which is referring to MXM 3.0.
So all of them are electrically compatible.
However, MXM III laptops will NOT fit MXM II cards because of the heatsink. The mounting holes are different, I have never seen a heatsink that fits both.
The 8920g has 2 heatsinks. If you have had a 9700m GT then its probably the type III heatsink. You might want to try a more powerful card like the 9800m GT. -

Ah I forgot the mounting holes were different, good catch niff.
compatibility issue? VG.86M06.004 of 8920G - is it MXM III?
