To transfer via usb you would need a special type of usb cable. If you have firewire available on both of your systems then you can use a standard firewire cable and transfer files that way.

Get one of these: http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=007082&cid=516 Just plug one end into the back of your PC hard drive and the USB end into your laptop. Make sure, however, that you have the jumper on the PC hard drive set to Master.

USB was not designed for PC to PC connection. It can be done but requires special hardware that is expensive for a one time operation.
