hi all... i purchased the aspire 6920, the one with full options n all... everything was going well till today... i normally listen to music on my laptop through the headphone jack as i like connecting it to an amp and bigger speakers. today, after i removed the headphone from the jack, my inbuilt speakers do not play!! i just noticed a constant red light coming out of the jack and i assume its for the spdif thingy but isnt the light supposed to go off? iv run system restore and done the basic troubleshooting but it still aint working. when i play a music file i dont get any error message, everything looks ok only there's no sound but if i connect the headphone it plays... im really worried as iv had this laptop for less than a month.. is it a hardware or software problem... thanks in advance

go to the control pannel,, open the REALTEK HD SOUND EFFECT MANAGER....

under the 3rd tab (AUDIO I/O) you will see options for settings for the type of speakers to use and how to react when headphones are plugged in, (click the little WRENCH icon).

that RED LIGHT does seem to indicate that the headphone jack is trying to output sound DIGITALLY (spdif),, and i've looked thru my AUDIO options and can't seem to figure out how to turn the SPDIF off (or on),,

but if you have the ACER EMPOWERING TECHNOLOGY SOFTWARE still installed, i'd recommend that you check it,,, in particular the eAUDIO software... i'm sure the answer lies in there.....
