    hello to everybody,

few days ago i bought a 3690-BL50, the lappy is great, works wonderful, only that it's in bloody german! like it wasn't enough i had to follow a 14months daily course to learn the language, now it's on my laptop as well...

i called acer switzerland to request a eglish version of recovery discs...the answer plain simple: if your system came with a german version we can only give you a german recovery discs...blah!

can somebody PLEASE send me a copy of a recovery disc in english please for 3690, or whatever recovery will work for me? please! i can send you the money for shipping/dvd costs/extra via paypal or banktransfer.

    please!!

Maybe it would be better if you returned the laptop and get a different one that has an English version of Windows XP.

Also if you haven't checked, I think it may be possible to choose which language of the Operating System to restore, try booting up from the Recovery Partition or Recovery CD and see if there is an option to choose which language of Windows XP you can restore to.

i tried to use the recovery but went straight into german, with abs no question asked whatsoever.
the store said they dont have an english version, and a refund is not possible because ain;t the case of any malfuntion....

if it helps it has xp home...i really dont want to go to the illigal copy of windows but as well not to purchase a new xp just because acer is stubborn...

Well you could make your own Windows XP Home OEM CD. If you can get a copy of the English Windows XP Acer OEM Installation Source (If you do not use the Acer OEM version then this will fail) and use either one of the two keys Acer provides with it. However I don't know if it is legal or not.

Create an unattended Windows XP CD:
    http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/

Get OEMBIOS files from your current Windows Installation:
    http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/29/

Note: you have two Windows XP CD Keys. One is used in the recovery cd, which is used in most Acer laptops (from what I've seen). I think it is a Volume License OEM key that will only work with Acer installations.

Second you have another key at the bottom of your laptop which is on the COA sticker. To get the Acer Recovery CD key you need to use Magical Jellybean Keyfinder and that will give you the key used in the recovery cd.

However this may or may not work since the keys might be tied to the German Windows XP.

If all else fails just lie to the store, say stuff like the machine is too slow, or doesn't have the stuff you need like firewire, or bluetooth which you think is essential for your work. Be persistent, make sure you make then understand that you hate the machine because it doesn't suit your needs.

then, can someone help me with a set of recovery cd's in english? and then following the indications given by vestige maybe i make it work.
problem was that it was a promotion, price was isanely low and i thought i wont mind german, and as well that acer will do like ibm (which sent me a set of english cd's) so giving it back ain;t too much as an option

please, help me enjoying my new lappy!

    thanks,

    dorin
