Words of warning, I tried the latest Intel 3945 wireless drivers on my 8204 which I got from the intel website. It had errors on bootup and created a mess. I had to downgrade back to the ones on the ACER FTP site.

The only thing Acer customizes is the ATI drivers and that's only because, until the mobility 6.5's were released, ATI didn't have the hardware id's in the installation inf's for the X1xxx products.

I'll try these tomorrow. I've already done one unattended CD with the prior version and they installed without a hitch.

I run the Intel website drivers ver. 10.1.1.163 and they work great, actually they work better than what was installed by default. the Wireless profile setup is also better.

Just looked and there is a new version.

for the most part, I recommend people use the updated intel drivers, and most people agree that they work better. Sometimes the drivers will fix wireless problems (of course reinstalling acer drivers may have fixed as well).

Well I actually have 2 of these 8204's and both of them had the problem after the upgrade. I disabled the Intel wizzard and had Windows Zero Config running the wireless. Maybe that was the issue.

yeah that very well could be. I have seen where using Windows Zero Config , my WPA passwords are not kept. Then when you go in to setup the profile all you can enter is a WEP key.

Switch to Intel profile manager, its a nice tool and works well

After seeing this post last night, I downloaded the drivers at work today and fully expected something strange to happen. The install went flawless, multiple profiles were setup without a hitch. For some strange reason though, instead of booting to the "Welcome" screen, it goes to the classic Username/Password boxes.

clintb if you are referring to the login for XP , that is just a setting change. If I remember correctly you set that under Control Panel > User Accounts > Change the way to logon. Check use Welcome screen
