It's easy to downgrade. Change boot order to CD first. Just pop in the Windows XP disc, and full reformat install.

Be sure to have all the drivers before hand. :D

Edit: But you shouldn't have any trouble downgrading..some Vista versions have the feature to downgrade built in. I am unsure which ones do, however. Try looking at msoft site?

The ACER Support 'FTP' site has all the drivers you need. Its easy to do and well worth it. I've downgraded my 9300 to XP Pro with no problems at all

First i had to get XP drivers for all my Hardware from the acer euro site,
Belarc Advisor is a great program for identifying yr hardware
then from Vista deleted the E: DATA partition
and left this space UNALLOCATED otherwise XP setup will not have a place for the swap file

Next I had to slipstream SP2 into my XP cd to workaround the PCI.SYS error
Set the bios to boot from the CD first, insert XP and reboot
At this stage XP will copy setup files to the drive and ask you to reboot again

This time you are asked if you want to boot to Vista or XP setup
select the second one then setup will ask where you want to install
and show you 3 partitions PQSERVICE; C: ACER and the UNALLOCATED space
select to install to the UNALLOCATED space on the drive
Setup continued without a hitch and 22 minutes later i booted XP

Now i have Vista and XP in a dual boot configuration
to restore the boot funtionality in Vista just use your Vista DVD and
rebuild the MBR/Repair then you have the ability to select which OS you want

XP is gonna be so fast on yr laptop

What is with all of the downgrading. Vista came with my 5610 and while I blew away the factory Vista build to purge the trailware and get rid of the two partitions, my clean build of Vista works great.

In fact you could not get me to move back to XP. Vista runs great, faster than XP IMHO and I have had ZERO problems with it so far. I upgraded my RAM to 2-gigs ($79 right from www.crucial.com) but that was more for VMWARE than for Vista.

Sadly you will be moving back in a year or less.

The only reason to even think about moving to Vista is DirectX10 and possibly eye-candy. That's it.

While you may think it's fast, it all comes to preference, and most hate Vista atm.

Lol....most dont care one way or another. Vista will dominate in two years and you will have no choice once they stop selling XP. In a year there will be new applications that will run on XP but run better or have more features on Vista.

Under the hood Vist is far better than XP as you mentioned DX10. The network stack is completely re-written and finally Microsoft has an OS that defualts to NOT running a normal user as the Administrator/root.

I have several games and programs that just didnt run on vista, Diablo 2
Nero and Photoshop to name a few. Not many companys are willing to patch these older versions to vista hoping you'll go buy the newest one.
But any NEW games or software released will likely be XP compatible

    I plan to keep XP
Vista is PRETTY but not very functional

    just my two cents

PS why did you feel the need to upgrade to TWO gigs of RAM???
Vista gets pretty hungry Huh : )

XP would crank on your machine with just the ONE gig
    AND run all your software

I ran 2gigs of RAM on my Dell 9300 before I sold it (17inch notebook was to big) with XP........in 2005.

I use VMware alot for testing client configurations hence the need for 2gigs of RAM on XP or Vista for me. I dont play games on my notebook...or any PC for that matter, and I upgraded my Photoshop elements 5.0 workes fine with Vista after a FREE patch.

If you primarily run older software/games then stick with XP. However if you belive the driver/performance hype and that is why you go back to XP right away with out trying Vista....then have fun a year from now when you go back to Vista.
