    hi
    im have a Acer 5010z, Processor T2080 core duo 1.73ghz, memory 1gb ddr2, HD 120GB Sata.

By default brings preinstaled Windows Vista Home Premium. And two partition C: (Windows Vista) 60gb and D: (data) and the hidden partition

IM Use the "Erecovery management" ( 2 dvd ) for "Factory default image".

I present my doubts to them here:

Now im going to downgrade to windows XP and install ubuntu with dual boot .

    1. Im leave the hidden partition (maybe in future im use vista) but im not sure if work (if im format C: im delete the Master Boot Record )

    2. Wich program work to manage partitions on vista? G parted boot cd?
and how many partitions im need !.

    Thanks

In all honesty do two things here

    A. do a full 1:1 backup with either Acronis / Ghost / etc. and put it on DVD or HDD for the times in which you do go back to vista or sell the pc.

    B. use Acer's built in backup utility to burn the recovery options to DVD as well.

From THERE go ahead and blow away ALL partitions on the laptop and install what you want. If you wish to use Linux as well as XP then make your XP install FAT32.... if you don't have that option in the formatting then leave some unallocated space on the disk and make a 3-5gig fat32 partition on top of the XP and linux installs. This will allow you to edit, save, and move files inbetween linux and XP freely.

Remember.... Linux can READ NTFS files but then can not WRITE to them! FAT32 allows you to do this.

For 75-100 dollars go pick up that software and save yourself a headache or 2.

Will the same work with the Aspire 9300, Home Premium Vista on AMD Turion 64 x2 system?
