Well, I was having a great time using my laptop, when I found a feature called eLock. Having heard something about locking your laptop from a friend I was interested, so I set a password and locked the laptop.

I'm always suspicious so I try to break the Lock by trying out a few things, most logical being shutting down Empowering Technology.

Well, I'm still locked out, but there's also no way I can get back in! The lock has locked everything up, disks, usb drives and HDD. I thought I'd at least be able to fill in the password somewhere, but no.

So, I reboot in safe mode. I find Empowering Technology, start it up, and to my amazement I can click eLock Manager, and it will do nothing. My Empowering Technology bar will be there, but only one icon is on (the beamer icon).

Short version: I can't start up eLock, I do remember my password, I can only use my laptop in safe mode. Also, I'm logged in as Admin all the time, and I tried running it as administrator. I run Vista Home Premium.

So there's no reasonable cure? That's not very professional at all. I managed to solve it by doing a system restore, but I shouldn't have to do that every time I accidentally or intentionally close eLock.

Anyways, restarting in safe mode offers access to all files anyway - so the software doesn't even work properly.

from what i hear there's a bug in the software which causes a registry problem. I did know the work around for it but its quite long winded and i've forgotten it. You may want to check for an udated version, personally i only use the power management software on my unit.
