In eManager there is a BIOS setting for having the fan always enabled. I was just wondering if there are any advantages or disadvantages to enabling this as opposed to the dynamic fan speed.

I find a lower constant fan is less annoying than a fan that starts and stops.

Hmm..it's a matter of preference. I am somewhat prefer my fan running lower at constant speed than on/off. Constant fan speed will make your notebook temp constant as well.

There is one disadventage of "fan always enabled" that can be even dangerous -max fan speed in always enabled-mode is lower than "panic speed" of the fan when it's in auto mode. So if you play a lot the temp of the CPU (and gpu if the heatpipe is cooled by the same fan) will be higher. May cause artiffacts and cpu overheating.

So, perhaps it could be "fan always enabled" for general windows work, and leave it variable for games and other processor intensive activities?

If the computer blows up, you won't hear again lol

I recommend u keep the settings how they are if you want to do heavy tasks such as gaming

After fiddling for a while I have come to a couple of determinations.

First, the "Fan Always Enable" setting keeps the fan at a constant speed, and constantly one. The fan is slightly higher than the lowest speed but is still pretty quiet.

Second, if you are playing games or doing something comutationally intensive, I recommend turning it off since it does not allow dynamically changing the fan speed which would cause the system to heat up.

This option is great if you are seeking to reduce system noise. That may sound odd, but having a constant low noise is preferable to me (and others) than having silence then a sudden whirring. Since you have become used to silence, the noise (however low) seems a lot louder, wheras a constant low pitched noise will soon be forgotten.

It is also true that with these fans, the initial spinning up sound is the most disturbing since it can be quite high pitched.

If you are running basic applications, streaming music to an external source or watching a DVD, this option may be more comfortable.

If you have removed the option, you can find it in C>Program Files>Acer>eManager>eSettings.

Let me know how you get on!

I was considering turning that option on, but since I do some gaming I figured I would be better off leaving the auto fan on. This thread helped alot. Nice one.

Just some numbers to throw at you...

My turion1.6 undervolted stays at 43.0C & X700 at 47.0C whilst under light load with the fan always enabled. They are pretty low numbers. I should try underclocking my GPU again.
