    Hi,

I'm planning to kick my Aspire 5024 laptop back to the factory settings, but wanted to put one uncertainty to rest.

I understand C partition will be restored to out-of-box condition and it no longer contains anything important, all is backed up. However, I have run out of storage space with backing up the D-partition. The partitions are as they were when machine was bought.

Will Acer eRecovery touch the D: (DATA) partition if I instruct it to restore the factory setup? I have found multiple references saying both yes and no. Part of it is due to ambiguous language ("all files will be wiped" "the HDD will be in the condition you bought it" vs. assurances that D: is safe)

I've never done this on an Acer, but on Sonys which are setup the same way it gives you three options - restoring C: only, restoring both C: and D:, or custom.
I suspect you will be given similar options.

The recovery shouldn't touch D:. I've recently restored a friends 5315, and it left the D: alone.

I have restored my lappie many times and I can confirm that D is left untouched. Only C is restored to factory default settings.

I will add that I restore from PQ Service. Never ever from discs.

Never ever been necessary to use CD's as my PQ Service partition is intact.

That's why I say in my Signature: Leave the Hidden Partition (PQ Service) alone.

It is a true life saver. Always. And it is far quicker than multiple disks that you need to load in the right sequence.....

Please believe me. Been there many times before.

Good to know... being on Macs for the past 7 or 8 years I'm learning PC's again - last OS I ran was Windows ME and it was buggy as hell. Vista seems VISUALLY nice - still new to it though - good to know the RESTORE tricks.
