    how many people have ditched acer recovery and re-formatted?

    I ditched mine but thats because I have an OEM copy of vista from my desktop, so I have a backup. I wouldn't recommend it if you have no other backup source.

    I deleted mine because it's basically useless. It restore to a bloated OS which I do not want. I have my own genuine windows XP professional/Vista ultimate that I can use to install.

    eRecovery is the most welcome tool , i can create my own restore point ,
    with all my software and updates loaded .

    I got even a new HD (larger ) , and transfer to it , the same ability .

    Now i can restore my laptop , with out any need of tools .
    Just in 11 minutes :)
