I have a few questions regarding the factory default recovery option and the empowering technology program suite. I want to uninstall the program suite, will this also remove the Alt+F10 factory restore option available on startup? From what I understand if one presses alt+f10 at startup you can recover from the hidden partition.
Second, I have some backup discs, I'm not sure what they are, one is simply 300 MB with a folder called images and several 50 MB files. The other two have the following files/folders on each: acer, i386, images (same 50mb files), patch, rcd.dat scd.dat winnt.sif and stcdboot.iso
Are these discs backup discs of the factory default settings?
And if they are/if I burn a new set of discs, can I boot from them at startup to restore my computer without a need for the recovery partition and erecovery program?
Thanks in advance for any help with any of these questions![]()

It is sometimes useful to tell what system and OS you are referring to
From your description these do sound like older Acer recovery disks.
Lets start from the beginning though:
Before removing the acer apps I sudggest you burn a new set of recovery disks. This is normally possible from within one of the acer applicatioins. then at least you know you have them.
You can then un-install the acer applications if you wish. The Alt-F10 functionality works with the BIOS and a hidden partition that also contains a copy of the operating system and drivers. (and will put back the acer applications)
Depending on how old your laptop is etc I suggest you have a read of this http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/487245-what-do-when-your-new-acer-arrives.html#post6295157

I figured that the OS/system weren't really necessary for this type of question (I'm running XP on an Aspire 5600).
The main answer I was looking for is that I can uninstall the software with no worries and of course that the Alt-F10 is a BIOS feature.
I appreciate the quick and detailed reply
