hi i own a acer 4920, but i am interested in upgrading the utilities on my laptop and i see that they have brought out a new framework for some of the other notebooks.

is it possibly to upgrade these features on an acer aspire 4920

    regards

    I really don't know.

Some folks hate it. Some use it (like me).

The old regulars here used to uninstall all the Acer "junk". With huge success.

    I have kept it all.

And have had zero issues from my lappie. Stability is far more important then speed for me.......

    Just me though :D :D :p

(looks around...where is Hoggie and BigO)

You guys were the best. Now you are leaving it up to me.

    Cheers,
    Theo

    Not sure, 4920user.
I ditched the Empowering Technology on both my systems (this one and my previous TravelMate 3252WXMi).

TeeJay, keep in mind we still have Andy and sgogeta on the prowl.
You're not alone in these support issues.

I'd say it's not necessary, unless you have some problems with the current versions. If it's possible - I don't see why not.

I thought you needed it for the cpu fan to work? This is what I read for the as5315 anyway.

My CPU fan is working just fine on my 6920G, and did work on my TravelMate until I last saw it.
Of course, I also eventually did clean installs of Vista on both, removing any Acer traces on them.
But before them, not a problem with the fan.

In theory, the fan should be controlled by the ACPI thermal zones, which are controlled by BIOS. If Acer requires a software program to make such a crucial piece of hardware work, that's just stupid.

I've also got rid of my empowerment software and the fan works fine, no problems at all. Bios controlled as TehSuigi said.

I would honestly ask Acer themselves about this.

I removed it on my 5920G and it worked fine. Also got rid of acer arcade partition and software.
