I recently reformatted my acer 5100.. again . ( i dont think they have all the bugs out of vista yet). after reformatting in the past i had somthing reinstalling itself in my game folder that was attatched to my money management program and i thought it was comming off my d: or my travel drive. Thinking that there was only data files on my d:drive i deleted all files on it and then reformatted to a good dvd recovery disc i had made. worked pretty good until after i installed all the programs i wanted and was going to make a new back-up disc from erecovery ...thus the error code... i need to mention i also did a disc clean before reformatting. I read somewhere that that has caused the same type of problem... I downloaded a file recovery program and can see files and partitions. recovered one listed as erecovery but it was only NTI CD & DVD maker.. what should i be looking for. I believe the partitions are still active. any suggestions would be most helpfull.
    thank you Kurtis..

I think you may have corrupt files... faulty drives... or a virus of some sort...

i just looked at my hiden partition and it is empty, no files. I think when i did a disc clean for all users that i may have deleted the files. i have had no indication of the prev. problem and all my other things are working good. i just need to find erecovery

the hidden partition wont show you any files... its either empty or its to be opened with a program (such as a recovery program or a program that put it there)

    What is erecovery specifially again?

you cant have 2 main windows partitions... it will mess up the whole system... wel not if you get one of those boot flags and select which OS ...

This is getting a bit out of my area of knowledge

Beatsiz, thanks for your input. i think that i will do a little more research and see if i can get my erecovery working. it seems that a lot of people are having trouble with acer recovery systems. maybe it is not what i am thinking it is. I was thinking that maybe i can recover my 7.8 partition to another drive and make sure it works and then delete the original??

What I would say is that you have corrupt files or missing files...

Backup the files you need (in safe mode if you want to be really safe), scan them with antivirus etc...

And then just do a complete reinstal... and put the files back where you need them

If you are going to be using the same files... you may end up with the same problem...

i cant back up anything thats when it gives me the error message, I am trying to find a way to recover the back up system. i think that i might be able recover the partition to an external drive or to another partition and then delete the original but i am not sure how or even if it will work.

Why dont you just reinstal the backup system?

Backup up a non working backup system is technically... well I dont know... it already just confuses me thinking about it lol

What do you want? Files? Folders? The program?

I am not trying to be confusing, and i dont have a lot of experience with computers. I am learning quite a bit trying to figure this without spending any more money that i dont have. I just am confused on how to procede.. I burned a set of factory discs when i first started having trouble but when i used them it didn't change anything on my d: drive. I will try and look on them and see if my recovery system can be reinstalled from them. I was just looking on the disc and i am not sure what I am looking for.

    Its ok, I understand you.

Do you want to reinstall vista? Or make a backup?

People online have been saying the same thing as you... maybe you should just use the windows recovery if you have vista (forgot if XP has it too)

Or just get a new recovery/backup program...

Yes you can learn alot by just psneding more time with your computer having problems... if it works flawlessly theres nothing to fix and learn :)
I always have programs to tryout and new possibilities, so I always learn with those...

I do have 32 bit vista. I will try agian and see if i can make windows recovery work. i tried it and it just sat there. i think that the files(drivers, programs or whatever) it uses are the same as acer. i think that it all works together. I just find it frustraiting that it is this hard to find out how to reinstall the erecovery system all the other parts of the acer Empowering tach. seems to be in place and can be clicked on to reinstall if i need to. I looked on the factory discs that i burned and i see a bunch of files and folders, drivers etc. but i do not know what one to use to reinstall the erecovery so that i workes with the empowering program. I just hate to buy a program to make recovery or snapshots of my system when this should work and not get deleted by accident. Thanks agian for your input

I had following error when I was trying to backup my 5920G.

    Error code: 0xC0000003
Open image failed. Found error in OpenImage process.

But received email how to resolve this problem.

All you need to do is to create new folder "erData" on disk D and start eRecovery. It will start backup immediately.

Thank you. sorry it took so long to get back to this post. i recovered all of vista and the info on the hidden partition.... but then i tried to duel boot another os and it over wrote vista and i thought that sence i recovered the info the last time i could reformat the hard drive to remove the other os and recover using the factory recovery discs that i had burned. well this of course deleted the hidden partition completley and now there are things that do not work properly after i recovered from factory discs.. i have heard about NAAP CD's and want to know if this can help. there is no PQSERVICE partition in disc management. but i did use disc management to recreate my d: drive.
Once everything is working properly then i can research what programs i can do without that are slowing my machine down.
    Thank you
    Kurtis
