Well i have the same issue and it happens on my vista home premiumand my windows xp desktops. and update.wow is only a vista thing as far as i kno, even if thats not true i have the same issue on every pc i try the card with so it not a windows issue its a card issue and its a FAT file issue with the sd card. So what i did to fix it is, copy all my data that was on the 2GB sd card to a folder on my desktop and reformated it. to do that right click on my computer or (vista) Computer and select manage and then select disk managment and youll see all yourdrives there and right click on the sd card and select format and choose FAT. And thats what fixed this issue for me. Chow

Hi, I'm new to the forum, but I was having the same problem and nothing was working, but I did find a solution.

The problem is not with the SD card but with the actual driver that your computer uses. If you are plugging it directly into the card slot that is in your computer that is where the problems arise. The hardware just is not meant for big items.

SOLUTION: You need to use a seprate card reader that is high spead,(not the cheapy ones)

 so let me see if I understand the solution:

    1) copy existing files from SD card to file on PC/Laptop
    2) reformat SC card as FAT file
    3) re-copy files from computer to SD card

I was about to do that however, my SD card is already formatted as a FAT file, BUT there are 2 more options to formatting that I havent seen a post on: NTFS and FAT32.

    Anymore solutions out there?

FYI: I googled the error number and got a lot of hits but NO FIX. Anyone got a website that offers the patch for this error? Oh and I also when to website of mfg of my SD card (SanDisk) and got this message:

    Hi,
I have been posting this error issue to as many blogs as I can find. After one of my posts someone asked me some questions (in black type) and I answered them as best I could ( in red type). I have not received any response to them so I am sharing them now in the hopes someone will help me with this error issue.

the error means The directory or file cannot be created.

does this happen only on 1 spicific file? I am crusing along, copying files from either a file on my laptop or from CD to the SD card, and after about 300 or so pics (2074KB) I get the error message
can you copy other files to the device? Yes, up until a certain point then I start getting the error message and then I can NO longer copy ANY file type to the card.

what file system is the cad formatted in? FAT? FAT32? FAT

are you copying all files to the root directory or are you sorting them in folders? Not sure how to answer this question. Since I dont know what a root directory is, I assume I am NOT doing that. I am not transfering files by folders, just by individual jpg's. Here's what I am doing: I open a CD (for example) and highlight the files I want copied. Then drag the files to the SD card. I do this for about 300 or so, pics (I want to get all my photo's on one SD so I can use a Digital Photo Frame). Is there another process/trick to copy all the desired files to one place, then selecting another software program (other than Explorer) (ie. Kodak software, Picasa), to move/copy to SD card?

how much capacity is used and how much is free?
Used space: 81,690,624 bytes (77.9 MB)
    Free space: 1,949,270,016 bytes (1.81GB)
    Capacity: 2,030,960,640 bytes (1.89 GB)

I eagerly await any and I mean any suggestions you may have. and I thank you so much for all your help !!! :)

I am using a sd flash card and was getting this error message.

I did a quick and full FAT format and it didnt fix the problem.

to fix it I did a full FAT(32) format and changed the cluster size and that fixed the problem.

    Good luck

Thanks all u guys helpful comments. I just had same problem with a 1GB microSD card, would only accept 450MB music. Was going to return card as faulty but after reading comments on this site I just re-formatted the card in NTFS format and ...BINGO.. it all works fine. Thanks.

I have a 2GB USB Flash drive which would only accept around 300 and something files before it gave me the error 0x80070052

I reformatted mine to NTFS also and it's working fine now and can accept as many files as there is room for.

    Hi Ken

I tried copying my files in FOLDERS. Since doing that, I have NO problems with the cards. I formatted the card to a FAT file. I hope this helps.

BTW: I use the card in a digital photo frame that plays music with the photos and have had NO problems since creating folers.

My problem was trying to copy everything as a single format, i.e., mp3, jpg, bitmap, as soon as I created folders (did this BEFORE transfering them to card), I have NO error message!

    Good Luck!

the solution is simple the cards will only hold so many folders and when you transfer to your flash card you make a new file. what you need to do is transfer one file back to your computer then delete it from your card that will free up a slot for a folder then create a new folder on the flash card then you can put all of your files in that new folder and free up space for new folders

sounds like the old DOS limitation on the number of files/folders in the root directory once again rears it's ugly head!!!

that is exactly it no need to reformat just simply move all of the files into one folder and that opens up a bunch of space 2g,4g,8g doesnt matter the size of card you will still be limited to how many files you can have in the root directory

i dont know if this would count as a solution but i just did it but it has let me put my files on. i'll message again in the future to tell you all if it's still working.

    ---------
right click to re-format the memory card. switch the default FAT file system to a NTFS system. and it should automatically switch the allocatioin unit size to 4096 bytes.

if it works after file system change then it's a SOLUTION...

if you have to do something everytime you need to access the card then i'd call it a WORK-AROUND :eek2:
and also a pain in the ***
