Is there any trick to getting an external monitor to work with an Acer Aspire 3000? I connect the monitor, and it says "Check Signal Cable". I hit the <Fn><F5> keys, and I get a little popup that has a three different icons, apparently one for normal, one for both, or one for external only.

But no matter which one I select, it only ever displays anything on the notebook. :-(

thanks, andy. (I was hitting the fn+f5 keys, but the angle-brackets I added in the first entry for this thread made them get eaten!)

At any rate, while I was sure I'd tried starting from a cold boot with the monitor plugged in, I must not have, because after I shut down to attempt your bios adjustments, and restarted, the external monitor was now displaying the bootup!
