    hello there,

my 5920g's fan recently has been making more noise recently (im pretty sure) it keeps comming on (or increasing) and makes more noise than usual, is this a serious problem? or is it normal? (even though i think its happened more recently) does any one else have this problem? also i know this laptop gets hot its actually painful to touch if you press down on the top left (which i assume is where the processor is), would be really greatful for any advice,

    Hi,
I appear to experience the same sort of problem you are having with the fan, mine ramps up after 5-10 minutes of usage on just using the internet alone, but mine turns on and off at regular intervals. I installed Speedfan 4.33 on mine to monitor the core temperatures, by viewing this it appears to turn on (speed increases) at around 53 degrees centigrade and will take the temp down to around 48 and become silent again (although I did read on another post that Speedfan don’t actually work with the ACER?). I haven’t tried any games on it yet as I am a newbie to laptops. Mine is still under warranty as I bought it on the 1st Jan 2008. I may enquire from the place I purchased it from, to whether it is a problem or not.

    How old is yours?

I was informed that it is best to have laptops on a solid surface, without table cloths or anything else that can be sucked up or block the air vents.

I haven't had any replies as yet, so I cant give any real advise, Im afraid, but I will let u know as soon as I hear anything?

    Ant

Welcome to NBR both of you!!

@redscott: Check to see dust has not accumulated where the lappies cooling vents are situated. If so, take off the bottom cover protecting them and gently clean and blow the dust out. See here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=60914

@Apearl23: My 5684WLMi fan also cycles up and down depending on temps. AFAIK this should be normal for your lappie. And solid surfaces are the best to work on to aid cooling.

    Cheers,
    Theo

You can partially solve the problem with the noise by decreasing the CPU voltage. To do this, I reccomend to use RMClock :)
