hey i have a acer 5002 wlmi an i am wondering if i can control the fan manually when it is running on batterys. when i have it plugged in the fan runs nearly all the time and the laptop stays nice and cool. but when i am running on the batery the fan seems to not run atall and the laptop gets pretty hot. i no if i have the fan running more i wont have as long a battery life but i am willing to make a compermise to keep it cool any ideas or suggestions thanks

It might be a standard system operation. In order to ensure the most battery life possible, the system might lower the speed of the fan. However, I cant explain why the fan is never on while using the battery.

Probably because when you unplug the notebook it downclocks the CPU to conserve the battery therefore it generates less heat and doesn't need the fan as much. The fan may still be running at low speed. If you check by the vents you may feel warm air coming out. Mobile meter will tell you the CPU temp if you are interested.

What i know is that the fan will stop some times to conserve battery and stuff, but it will come on when needed.

It should. That is why you want to find out what the CPU temp is when using the battery. If it is like 50ยบ and the fan is not coming on, there is a problem.
