I was having issues with my laptop(keyboard stopped working, mouse jerky, trouble booting), and after a lot of research found that a common acer problem is that the bios is the wrong version, and that it needs to be upgraded. so i downloaded a bios upgrade off of the acer website and ran it.

now my computer will not boot up, pressing the power button does nothing, it doesn't even light up.
i'm assuming that it was a bad bios flash, and i'm wondering if there's anything i can do to fix it.

my computer is an acer aspire timeline 5810tz-4657, 320 gb ram, intel pentium processor, 3 gb ram. i had windows vista and ubuntu v 10.04 installed on it prior to the bios flash.

any help is MUCH MUCH appreciated! thanks

I tried this, but there was no response by the computer.
I've discovered that if I plug the laptop in, then the power button light and the wireless light flash slowly simultaneously, and I feel the disc drive move a little bit. If i hold down fn + esc, the lights stop flashing, but when i release them the lights resume the flashing.

Did you run it in DOS or windows . . what messages did you see . . did it say it had flashed correctly ?

since the computer doesn't power up, i'm not sure how to specify whether it ran in dos or windows.. i'm minimally computer literate, but don't know a lot about hardware issues...
there weren't any messages or anything, the power button light, the flash drive light, and the wireless light just stopped flashing as long as the power button was held down or i was holding down fn+esc.

Sorry I really must be clearer :),

Were you flashing using a DOS boot disk or the Windows flash application - and what happened ?
Did it fail, or seem to work or what ?

As far as recovery, some people have found that connecting power /battery then booting with just ESC held down can reset a confused bios.

If your bios is badly messed up this won't work.

The connect power with Fn+ESC held then boot up holding them should make the bios directly read and load a bios file on the CD drive or USB on a netbook.

Sometimes any (5810) bios will do . . other times it needs to have a particular name or have flash batch /exe files too. You need the service manual to be sure but maybe someone here with a 5810 can help
