OK, so I purchased a 5672 x1600 a few weeks ago and would like to reformat the hard drive. I have an OEM Homexp SP1 CD. Would I be able to use this to reformat the hard drive and install a new copy using the cdkey on the bottom? Ive looked through a lot of threads but none of them really address this.

It is unlikely it will work using the key on your notebook. If you have the key from the CD it should work. You will still have to activate it. Microsft should activate it since you have a valid COA, but you mioght want to ask.

Unless your OEM CD is not really an OEM CD, the key on your laptop will work for the installation. You will most likely need to call Microsoft and activate the key manually since OEM keys cannot be automaically activated more than once.

I have an OEM XP Home from my desktop that I've had for a couple years. I've done about five installs/activations with that CD key without any problems...
