Hi I have a aspire 5738z when I use it on the tv there is no sound,
it did work last time i tried it but I seem to think it was before I did the windows 7 upgrade not sure I have searched the forum and tried what I have found and there is no option in playback devices for hdmi only the 2 one for speakers and one for Realtek Digital Output is this right or should there be a third for hdmi?
if so how can i get it to show I already have shoe disabled devices checked as well.

In playback devices you should find an option with the name of your video card. Also, be aware that ati requires you install the audio hdmi driver separatley, check their website. You could do the same for nvidia, tho i haven't encountered such a problem on nvidia.

hi again I couldnt find where it tells you which video card it has but I think it is nvidia as it is a pentium and from what I have read but im prob wrong the ati one has a amd chip so im non the wiser at the moment any more ideas are welcome as im all read up and my heads begining to spin lol.

Here you can find some links to the drivers, you could just as well install both nvidia and ati if you still can't find out what video card you have ^_^.
ATI Catalyst? HDMI Audio Driver

Tried the suggestion you made downloaded the ATI one but it wouldn't install as there was no card so it must be the other one so went to there site did the update finder and it said go to the acer site so I'M back to the start!

does anyone else have any different ideas

Not sure what the problem is but yes you should have Digital Output Device (HDMI) as an option in the playback device menu.

but there is no hdmi option in playback device menu and i have updated the driver as well
