    Lesson learned but in the future only perform a BIOS update if it addresses a specific problem you are having with your computer. Many make the mistake thinking a BIOS update will improve the computers performance etc. Not true as in most cases a BIOS update is issued to address an ongoing problem. If your machine is not part of the problem or is working fine, forget it and ignore it.

    I upgraded the BIOS on both my Vostro 1500 and 1700 because it fixed a overheating issue. I did the BIOS update via Windows with no problems whatsoever. Also when doing any BIOS update make sure all Anti Virus and Mal-Ware programs are shut down or disabled.

    My suggestion is to see how much Acer will charge to reflash your BIOS. ;)

    @Rodknee
    thanks.

    i only updated the bios on the Travelmate 6493 because after downgrading to winXp, there was an unknown device that i could not fix. i did shut down everything while flashing and i took the option of saving bios then update. i just dont know where and how to retrieve it.
    i also have a Vostro 1400 and T60 stinkpad which i updated with no problems.
    Already in contact with Acer but just hoping to solve the problem in-house.
    The 6493 is actually with my sis overseas.

    When you flashed the bios, it should have saved the backup in your documents folder, or one of the related folders.

    This is a thread on recovering an insyde bios, not sure if it would relate to the bios on your machine but maybe worth a shot:
