i read the windows help in the internet and i dont have the windows xp cd i just have the recovery cds, the only thing i want to do is just backup some data i have and then i will reinstall everything with the recovery cds
-
try Alt+F10 non destructive recovery, this will repair windows if it can without formatting the HDD.
but at least you burnt the recovery disks before it all went wrong, wise move
Alt+F10 at splash screen then tap the R key. -
thanks hoggie, it says that it will destroy all the info in c: partition, i dont want to destroy it yet, any other idea?
-
you need to try using the cd as this gives you the repair option but you need to set the bios to Boot from cd/dvd.
-
can you explain me this please i dont understand you, i have 3 disks from acer and 1 that says bootable, i did the change in the bios option to start first the cd drive and then i used the bootable disk but it still says that it will destroy the data from partition
-
if you have the disks from acer you get the option to repair windows this checks your windows file and replaces any missing sections of the os.
if you put the bootable disk in and restart you will get this option or you are asked to put disk 1-2 in the drive.
you also get the option to abort so do panic.
but you may have a virus and the only way out of that is to format C: drive.
do you also have a D: partition ?
if so use this to store your work, as this is left alone when you reinstall windows.
ive done the fresh install and D: wasn't touched -
yes thats what i wanted to do move to the d partition but i cant start windows to move the files to that partition.
-
what a pain in the behind lol.
-
can i use the usb flash drive boot option in this laptop?
-
-
well i used the recovery cds and now i dont see my other partition the D: what can i do to see it?
-
disk management in
control panel>administrative Tools>Computer Management>Expand storage>disk management.
this will show you your active partitions -
before the error happened i converted the partitions to NTFS but now the D: partition is a Type 1F and i used partition magic, now that im using partition magic it only says that i can format that partition type 1F and that will erase everything i have in that partition, what can i do now. And the partition C: is now FAT32 again, WTF i thought i will have the partittions in NTFS.
-
on mine windows always formates to fat32 i use the cmd prompt in windows to go to NTFS
im sure 1(f) just means partition is not empty ! -
how did you do that format in cmd prompt, with partition magic i cant browse or do anything than just format the partition or delete it
-
it would be better if i give you the link to tech net.as it has the full set of instructions.
