    Hello.

I have an Acer Aspire 1694 WLMi and I'm having problems reading some cds/dvds so I suppose I need to clean the drive.
Problem is, how do I remove the drive from the bay, in order to clean the laser?
If anyone could give me some detailed instructions on how to do this, I would very thankful.
The drive is a mat****a (don't recall the model right now) front loading drive.

    Thanks in advance

    Yuri

You don't need to remove the drive to clean the laser unless it is slot loading. Eject the drawer and you should be able to see the laser. It looks like a glass bubble.

Be VERY carefull when cleaning it though. Any grease will refract the laser. Use an alcohol cleaning fluid and I would recommend a cotton bud.

If it is only happening on some CD/DVD's - what kind of CD/DVD's are they? Are they copies (oops - sorry - backups ;-))? If so - maybe you have an older drive that can't handle these discs. Certain drives from Matsu****a/Panasonic are renowned for difficulties readign DVD/CD writables.
