I've been interested in it since I first saw it on a street shop here, it is a cool laptop,it is not a huge lappy considering its screen size , and I think it is priced right,I never seen any one writing about it here, so I am wondering if any one already bought it.
Edit: I found a review on this one.

do you mean the acer aspire gemstone blue 16inch?
I am also curious about this laptop. is it good for games and how long does it get out of battery at low settings to just serf the net on WIFI -
There are another two super detailed reviews:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Acer-Aspire-6920G-Notebook.8783.0.html
http://translate.google.com/transla...alia.it/recensione-acer-aspire-6920-2105.html
OK, I worked on Aspire 6920G-6A2G25Mn [only available model here in Serbia], so this is my experience (I mainly share the same thoughts with reviews).
It's great notebook! It has few cons:
- Keyboard flex in central and right part (bad for prolonged typing)
- Ventilation slot exhausts partly hot air into right lower corner (which can be or not problem on long term)
- Fan works all the time (can be or not annoying, depends on taste)
And many pros:
+ Build quality is excellent - no cracks, no flex [yes, Acer managed it
]
+ Great design
+ It doesn't heat at all (forget hot Aspire) - I think it's Acer with best cooling ever!
+ Display is good and it's 16:9
+ Good sound
+ CineDash Media Console is pure perversion
+ Fast hard disk and new 9500M GS
+ HDMI out
If you don't type too much, buy it without thinking. I type a lot, so I won't probably buy it [I think about using external keyboard for prolonged use if on the end I buy it - see my signature]. -
yes, my Japanese friend told me to buy it and I just saw it here in Bangkok last night. But unfortunately, as usual the model I saw had much weaker CPU than my Japanese friend's Acer( T5750 CPU) and in BKK, I can only get it with the T5750.
But in Japan, I can get it with either T9300, T8300, T8100 or T5750 with 3gb of ram or 4gb of ram(in BKK, only 2gb and more expensive).
And it is much cheaper in Japan than it is in my area.
I wonder if it is cheaper in the US than it is in here in BKK too.
And what CPU is available for it in the US.
I might ask my mom to get it in the US if it is cheap in the US.
It 's priced 43400baht here , 31baht is about 1USD. -
Thanks, and I 've got a question.
Do you think it's got HDMI input and how responsive its screen(I think the 4920G has the 8ms LCD)? -
^^^
Same here - T5750 only.
And in neighboring country [Croatia], there are models with T8100, T8300 and T9300 and with BlueRay drive as standard
.
-
HDMI is out not in
, and it has HDCP support.
Display has 8ms response time as advertised [it's Samsung display as I remember, not AUO]. -
8ms? thats not that great. is it possible to get this laptop with WUXGA?
also, where can i see specs of the 9500m GPU? its not on the nvidia site. -
That's great for notebook LCD.
Yes. http://www.notebook.de/acer-aspire-6920g-serie-g-783/
Really?!
http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_9500M.html
Peace.
-
how did you find that? all i could find was the 8series cards. thank you.
-
thanks lot, but it is a Samsung LCD panel, oh reminded me my horrible experience with SEC in my EX-Dell.
by the way, how do you compare it to the XPS m1530? -
it's about 10 percent more powerful than the NV86GT with gDDR2 and according to Acer service person here , it is the GDDR2 version of the NV95GS so a bit weaker than the GDDR3 version of NV86GT in the XPS M1530.
but as a whole , I like this Acer better than the Dell since the Acer built much better and the speakers are really outstanding.
I found this bench mark: http://www.notebookjournal.de/tests/473/3
It's good not bad, and this review site seems very open minded and unbiased. -
My dad just picked one up in Canada for $1299, the top of the line one available w/ Blu-Ray & 9 series GPU. I will post specs and a short review when I see him next, probably this weekend or next week! If you have any questions that you want me to look up, let me know
-
I live in vancouver bc, Canada and can't find any acer 6920 with better cpu than 1.8 ghz, the only model i found thats top of the line in canada, is the acer 6920-6428 model with the crappy T5550,1.83GHZ cpu and inferior intel abg wireless card http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=29288&vpn=LX.APQ0X.401&manufacture=Acer
where can i find one with the t8100 cpu or better that includes both the bluray and 9500m gs? -
You have right. It has crappy T5550, but why is Intel ABG wireless card inferior? If there is no draft-N wireless in your area, it's useless.
Otherwise, it has BluRay drive, 9500M GS, 3 GB DDR2 and 320 GB HD.
Is there any other on-line store in Canada?
-
Don't worry, those are new 16" displays and from what I know/see nobody complained yet
.
They target different market. 6920G is 16" desktop replacement multimedia and gaming notebook. XPS M1530 is more gaming oriented.
-
how fast is your Hard disc reading spead?
-
yeah, exactly , if there is no N support in your area like where I am in , it is jusless.
and T5750 is not that bad ,I just think it's lacking the Intel VT is more serious problem to some.
and Thanks for your comment on the Samsung LCd.
I think you should get the Travel Mate 6592G , which was reviewed at notebookcheck and rated very good(88percent).
As a HP user , I like the 8510P but is expensive , I got it free so I can't complain about it....but sadly, I will have to return it to my boss before he goes back to LA. -
I was thinking of being more future proof having the latest technology, the wireless n is not that important to me, however the cpu is what I'm most interested about. All the reviews i've read is based on the t8100 cpu or better, that cpu is supposed to to run faster clock for clock, cooler and more energy efficient, therefore will add some extra time on the battery
-
I read it, and review at notebookitalia.it.
I'm going tomorrow in capital to buy new notebook definitely. TM6592G is top Acer business model (but I don't need Centrino Pro, but I prefer matte displays). I need to see display by my own eyes, and the same is for Vostro 1500 and TravelMate 5720G
.
Yea, too much money, I won't buy it. -
The best you can get in Canada is the T5550. It's plenty fast enough. In most uses you wouldn't even notice the difference between this and the T8100.
edit: here is the link for the top of the line 6920g in Canada
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicati...tails.asp?EdpNo=3837408&body=MAIN#detailspecs
one sale, the model w/o Blu-Ray
http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?webid=737990&AffixedCode=WW
My dad is returning the one he bought 2 weeks ago and getting the $899 one ($400 dif for no Blu-Ray). The laptop is very good to use, excellent low flex keyboard, nice looks, the processor is more than enough for him, runs relatively cool, and pretty cheap. -
BTW, how much is the Thinkpad T61P in your area?
if it is as cheap as in the US, you should consider it , it is very expensive in Asia so I won't buy it but when I was at home , I had it since it was so cheap in San Diego. -
Where is the Aspire 6920G available in the US? Circuit City seems to be selling a different model with a cheaper video card.
-
I don't think US has the newer Acer's yet.
-
R61 models are cheap and expensive, every T61 model is expensive here, and I would not buy T61 anyway for several reasons
. And look at my signature.
This model has integrated (Intel X3100) graphics and that's reason why this particular model is cheap. -
The hard drive is the WD 320GB - WD3200BEVT model. Haven't tested speed yet, but I know there are benchies in this forum somewhere.
-
Ordered the AS6920-6428 configuration (the one with the BD drive) through a reseller friend of mine.
This is gonna be a HUGE upgrade over the TravelMate I've got now - I will actually be able to play recent games. ^_^
Review and such when the backorder's been cleared. -
How much did you get it for, if you don't mind me asking?
-
my sister there told me she would buy it at a CC in San Diego Sports Arena.
oh forgot , they only carry a cheap one with low resolution screen. -
So you've got the NV9500GS , right? is it GDDR3 or GDDR2? -
Oh, thanks it is very nice then, this WD is quite fast runs at 5400rpm but tested better than most of 5400rpm HDDs.
I definitely try to get it with T8300 , thanks for your reply. -
9500M GS 512MB GDDR2
-
Hi,
Just short info for people from Europe or UK - the top model of 6920g with T9300 processor is available now from Laptopsdirect in UK (shippment to other countries in Europe also possible for UKP 29).
See here:
http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_6920G-934G32Bn_LX.APQ0U.040/version.asp
They say next stock 19th May - but I called them today - and it was already available - so I ordered one
Should be here (in Amsterdam) by Wednesday.
regards,
Rafal -
The MSRP of $1099 CDN.
See the product catalogue from their website
Helps to know someone in the biz.
-
How come the catalogue says the 6920-6428 model has only 8600M and not 9500M?
-
Because 9500M GS is 8600M GT [I explained xz times
].
-
how is the 9500M GS the same as the 8600M GT? last time I checked they weren't the same...
-
According to the Mighty Wikipedia, they have almost identical specifications. The 9500M GS is simply a die shrink of the 8600M GT from 80 to 65 nm.
This means it'll run cooler and use less battery power, which is always good. -
hey guys,
i live in the philippines and the 6920g is not available here yet. luckily a family friend is going to the states in june. Would anyone know what store there i can get the 6920g-6422? its the model with the t9300 cpu...
i want this specific model coz i plan on playing a lot of games on it given that its got better specs than my desktop does right now... haha... and i think its the best laptop out there right now in terms of price for performance..
thanks -
Finally got mine yesterday.
Haven't had enough time to get the thing set up and migrate over fully, but I can say this: what a beautiful beast it is. ^_^ -
