how do i know if my Guts in myaspire 6920g is dieing and will it reduce system performance?I think maybe one part or something is wearing out and leading to my cod4 lag @_@. So. Any tips?
-
It would help if you posted more info, like any issues you're having with lag.
-
If your system is overheating, it will automatically downclock to prevent hardware damage. In turn, it will cause the game to severely lag.
Use HWMonitor to keep track of your temperatures. -
i have low temperatures...o.o.
-
-
What is happening in-game during the lag spike? Is it random or concurrent with another event?
-
. Im not sure what this is....Im thinking of reformatting my computer.....And I defrag everyday with Auslogics Disk Defrag
I wouldn't say random, but nothing seems to be causeing it...its just after 3 minutes i get lag spikes....Really bugging me.
I have been uninstalling and reinstaling and installing a lot of different free AV's and firewalls(comodo avast etc..trials) could this be a case? -
Switch to the 169.04 video driver. I had similar issues and it solved them.

Still sounds like its downclocking..
Run HWMonitor and leave it while playing COD4 for an hour or so,
Post back with the maximum temps shown. If any of them is higher than 90c then its overheating. -
And remember, HWmonitor reads your CPU temperature 15 degrees BELOW what it actually is!
As well, the 6920G downclocks its CPU in the high 60s. -
Also, if you have any antivirus software that is downloading and installing updates, or other applications in the background, it could be causing the lag.
-
I used 169.04 to solve that issue on another game I don't play anymore. 169.04 is a old driver that's why I changed it. The one I currently use, as the other did, are the only one I found that allows me to overclock.
-
The 185.20 is now a replacement for the 169.04 OC'able drivers. See my sig.

....Uhhh i bought this fan of ebay cant wait for it, is it good here is link...its in a tiny url cause its so long!

is that good? -
There was a Notebook Cooler topic in the Accessories forum (I think) that had some good recommendations.
As long as the cooler's fans are blowing where they should and your notebook fits, it should be fine. -
i only clean my fans...should i clean the hardware too?
-
Not necessary - although taking out the fan and making sure the heatsink is dust-free wouldn't hurt.
-
now how would i do that =P!, also i was playing cs:s and CPUID hardware monitor showed my CPU hottest as 59c xD....
-
Is that before or after the 15 degree adjustment?
I pesonally use RMClock for hardware monitoring, as you can define an offset of +15 in the registry.
As for the fan, here's the quick disassembly procedure.
1. Turn off the machine.
2. Take out the battery and all peripherals.
3. Flip it over and unscrew the main cover.
4. Notice that there's a four-wire cable going from the fan to a power port immediately below it - pull that carefully.
5. Unscrew the one screw keeping the fan on, and carefully remove it. Might take some elbow grease.
6. The grille of the heatsink (what the fan blows on) should now be exposed - use compressed air to blow that sucka out!
7. Do it all backwards. -
-
Ya, that's getting up there in heat.
Again, mine downclocks in the high 60s. -
how cool should a fan cool my CPU down..it has 3 fans @_@.
Well then again don't we have different CPU's, are you referring to your current or the one you got in stock? -
Both, actually - I believe the thermal trip is BIOS-enforced or something.
Which kinda makes me want to upgrade my BIOS...but then I hear about the horror stories of bricked Acers... -
?whats bios?and what does upgrading it have to do?
-
the 6920 has 3 fan???
-
@Awake: BIOS stands for Basic Input-Output System, and it does just that. It controls things like how all your system's parts co-operate with each other, keyboard and mouse inputs, and some basic settings. It also includes ACPI, which is the name for the low-level thermal control system in your notebook (what shuts down your CPU to save it from extreme heat, etc).
Updating this is a bit of a tricky procedure, as a bad flash means that your system can't do the most basic tasks; you would then have a very expensive paperweight.
However, it can have benefits, such as fixing some hardware problems or new functionalities.
Mat, the 6920G most certainly does not (I know, I opened it). There's only one system fan, but Awake got a 3-fan cooler off eBay. -
Hey TehSuigi, how did you find out it was 15 degrees off? HWMonitor reads about 14 degrees idle for me, which I know is off but is it exactly 15 degrees off? What are your idle and load temps?
-
he used another programm called realtemp I think. Another way was to leave it idle for a complete night. At the morning, the room was aound 21 degree and the computer at something like 7 degree. (it has even reached below 0 during the night...)

-
Well, sorta. The CPU is the computer's "brain" because it does all the thinking.
The BIOS would be more like the computer's brain stem - the bit that controls things like breathing, and other automatic functions. -
