    hey everyone
Since this is an Acer section, Im assuming almost everyone here has had some experience with their laptops. Can u tell me how Acer is as a brand, and in terms of quality and customer support. I've heard of people who claim to know other people who've had really bad Acer experiences ... is this true?
Also any opinions on the Acer 8103 will be appreciated. THanks

I think you'll find from Acer owners that they love the brand and that model in particular. Depending on your needs also look at the 8104 which has a better ivdeo card.

I think the Acer support varies depending on where you are in the world. The UK seems to have lots of complaints, less so from other countries. Perhaps their support is particularly bad there or the British like to winge alot -i leave that to you to decide ;)

The build quality isnt as good as some brands. They tend to use plastics, whereas some brands -such as IBM and Asus tend to use Titanium/ Magnesium alloys and carbon fibre.

Acer tend to use lower specd RAM and slow hard drives (4,200rpm). Other than that they pack their machines with good features -decent graphics cards etc, and are good bang for buck.

These have been my impessions from comments I have read & research I have done into my own purchase. Users themselves may have differing experiences.

Yea, you're probably correct about the Acer support thing ... I'm considering the Acer 8103, and the RAM is the latest DDR2-4200 running at 533mhz or whatever, and the hardrive runs at 5400 as well. Brian don't they both have the Ati x700 with 128mb video memory? Also are all notebooks in the Travelmate series made of the same plastics or does it differ model to model?
    thanks again.
