My brand new 5100 (bought on Saturday) gets 100 minutes before a 10% warning comes up then immediately shuts down my computer. This, compared with the four plus hours I got on my Macbook. But hey, this is 1/3 the price of the Macbook.

My brand new (in August '06) 5100 got over 4 hours with wireless on.

Now 15 months later I still get about 3:30 with wifi on. Your 5100's battery is definitely faulty.

Faulty or they've downgraded the battery. I'm participating in another forum where others have bought this same computer, they're getting two hours or less. So, I'd say they're now selling them with four cell batteries and you've likely got a six or eight.

adinu - which battery do you have? Mine is the BATBL50L6 (4000mAh). But the "6" at the end, I'd guess a six cell battery, could yours be a BATBL508H? That would be an eight cell (4800mAh).

    Aspire 3503WLCI = 25 minutes(2.3 years old)
Ferrari 5005WLMI = >3 hour normal tasks, in minimum mode, 4 hours. (9600mAH) I think?? my Ferrari hasn't worked for more than a month, and it is in repair, so I can't check...

Yup, just checked the battery, it is the BATBL508H rated at 4800mAh.

I guess Acer didn't skimp on battery specs a year back.

5920G's battery life never ceases to amaze me.

About the same as BigSpin and Evil Eye.

i can get about 3 hours of wireless net surfing on power saver but with the screen turned up to 25%... not bad in my opinion but then i do have a 8-cell battery.

Have to agree that the 5920G's battery life is amazing. With the limited testing I've done so far it's about 3 hours listening to MP3's and watching a few TV episodes in Balanced performance.

Yeah, probably...this laptop is about 2-3 years old, but I haven't used the battery much. About 95% of the time i'm using it, it's plugged in. o.o; And a new battery for it is ~$135...

My 5102 has an 8 cell battery and with the wireless on and screen turned down to 0% the battery will last for around 3hrs:5min. However if I have wireless turned off the number is nearer to 3hrs:50mins. Of course when it was new I could get a few more minutes but I have ~7% battery wear on my notebook now after 13months so some loss in battery performance is expected.

2-3 years is the normal lifespan of a battery- regardless of how you use it.

Wonder if anyone has tried running a laptop off a UPS? The reason I ask is I have a two year old who'll grab the cord and send my laptop to the floor. The less than two hours run time off my Aspire isn't nearly enough, and I'd like to use it in our living room that has no safe place to plug it in. My idea is to put a UPS on the dining room table and plug the laptop into that (running off the UPS battery). I'm guessing I'd get many hours off the UPS then the 100 minutes or so off the laptop battery.

I've got an Aspire 5630 with the BATBL50L6, that I bought in April of this year... Everest reports 38% wear, and it hardly even lasts an hour now. It used to last three when it was new, but I hardly ever used the battery...

38% wear in 8 months seems excessive.

Actually considering that a typical battery lasts around 2-3 years... 38% battery wear in 8 months isn't bad.

FYI my old Inspiron barely gets more than 20 minutes after one year. :(
