I've tried in the past to get the large cover off the bottom for cleaning, and i can't get it off where it hangs. Is there a technique to getting it off? I've tried pushing, pulling, etc. I must be doing something wrong, b/c it feel like if I force it, it will break. Almost like there is still a screw somewhere, but they are all removed.
my laptop needs cleaning badly, and I'd like to do it myself rather than pay $50 at the local shop, if I can.
does anyone have a picture of where it hangs and how to get it off?
appreciate it.

the cover where the thermal module and RAM is located is very strong. Just unfasten all of the screws and lever the cover carefully with a flat screwdriver where the groove is.
Once you can get your fingers in just pull at the cover. The clips are quite large and may take a bit more force than anticipated. -
i got it off this time. it actually hangs over near the heatsink side over the fan. the manual showed to push toward the back of the computer.
omg the fur balls in there were pretty bad. it's a wonder it didn't blow up. I guess these laptops are more durable than we think. the brass fins that fit into the exterior fan slots had 1/4 to 1/2 inch of furball on it. Looked like a carpet. I'm glad I decided to get the fan out totally, rather than clean from above, or I never would have found how bad it was.
hovering at 51 here now w/o my cooler on. -
its a wonder that more notebook manufacturer's dont make it easier to get at the fan/heatsink considering how much dust they suck in. Its just a good think that modern mobile CPU's aren't like mini furnaces like the athlon 64 DTR and the mobile P4's.

yeah that would be nice and practical! I've never disassembled a laptop before, so it was a bit scary. especially with the plastic washers that fell out under the heat sink. I thought how will i get them back in?
I put a very thin film of vaseline on my finger and swiped the post before placing the plastic washer. carefully positioned the heatsink and fan and got it back together. did a big phew!
the manual shows another fan under the touch pad. does that one typically get dirty too? is it harder to access? I'd hate like hell to have the buttons on the front go flying everywhere. -
all fans get a little dirty, this one isnt a major issue because if i remember correctly its just there to puch air over the TV card so there's nothing to clog with dust

that's cool - thx for letting me know. I'll leave it as is then.
I still need to take it to a shop, b/c the USB ports on the right side have always been loose. the usb plug wobbles in there. on one of them the plastic sleeve over the pins came off on to my antec cooler usb plug.
I'm using the left side usb's and a usb 2.0 pc card. I'd like to get it fixed. It looks like access is to the right of the hard drive in the outer case.
i never had the heart to send it back to acer for wtty service after reading some horror stories, so I just lived with it. would be nice to access those usbs.
