Hello friends,
I am facing a very serious problem with my laptop. I am having an acer travelmate 5310, which has hard disk from hitachi, Model name is HTS541680J9SA00-(S1). ATAPI MODEL=HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N-(PM).
This was having a windows visa by default. I tried to install windows xp on it. Unfortunatly i broke the partition and cleaned all the hard disk, and changed the partition from NTFS to FAT.
When i started installing xp it gave me a problem that hard disk is not installed. I searched and found that i need some sata drivers fot that, i tried everything that was avaliable on net to install xp with floppy, not without floppy. But the problem is still there.
What i think is i am unable to install proper drivers, i tried to download that from acer website also but still no improvement.
kindly help me and guide each step and also if u can help me in detecting proper SATA drivers that i need.
i sall b very thank full to u
regards

you need to slipstream the sata drivers for your laptop onto a XP installation cd. You can do that using nlite. there are quite some threads about that topic xp+sata+nlite here at the forum. just search a bit and you will find detailed informations.
Another way to get the hdd working is to switch of native sata mode in bios, but that will cost you some hdd performance. so the better solution is still slipstreaming.
But tell me one thing ... WHY the hell have you partitioned your hdd with fat ?
Ntfs is way better, can handle bigger files. Fat or Fat 32 was more a Win98 Filesystem, while NTFS is a more up to date filesystem , that is just not as limited as fat. I´d advise you to reformat the hdd with NTFS during xp pro installation -
i agree w/ schoko
you need ntfs as your file system unless you have a particular reason for wanting it fat
also, you don't have to slipstream the drivers. You can put them on a usb flash drive and when you are installing xp it prompts you for drivers almost right away- hit f6 when prompted and point it to your flash drive..
i'll see what i can find for your sata drivers- thanks for giving us your model number as so many don't.......... -
magicg
how old is that laptop
all i could find on the acer site was the travelmate 5300 series, but that's old as heck- circa 1996.........
are you sure that's your model number? and you had vista on it??
thanks...... -
thank you my friends

I have the same problem for my PC... And this is what i did.
First boot the windows Vista disk on your laptop, then delete all the partitions and then format it as NTFS.
Don't instal Windows Vista but Exit the setup after formating, then try to instal Windows XP.
It worked on my PC, so maybe it can work on your Laptop...
