I don't know how true that is, but any 64bit chip can also run in 32 bit mode...I don't think there is a way to "switch". I wouldn't worry about it. That guy might have been talking about 64 vs. 32 bit windows.

I dont know about the Turion, but I run Winxp x64 for my main OS on my PC's and will choose x64 when it comes to Vista - My machines run around 20% faster running x64, and here is the biggest difference - Memory Management -
E.G. I have 1000+ photos in "My Pictures", on 32big the thumbnails would load AS i was scrolling the screen - when I open "My Pictures" on my x64 box with 1000 pics the thumbnails load instantly, no waiting whatsoever - Same machine, only difference x86 to x64 - Also when I boot my PC on x64 the splash screen bar only goes across once - Being that the Turion is Dual core I would say you would get even a more speed advantage than me since I run the Athlon64 3000+ - The only downfall to x64 is drivers, but they have pretty much smoothed that out over the past year it has been out since a LOT more drivers have been released - 64bit OS is faster than 32bit OS - it runs twice as many binary bits per MS -

Also the CPU is bottlenecked by the OS, you will be pushing the x86 (32bit) windows to its maximum speed.
