hi, can anyone tell me how to reimage my mates aspire 1693 please?

i have an acer myself and i can easily put the disk back to factory by deleting the partition and putting in the system recovery disk in to boot. hey presto fresh and simple!

you may have guessed that in my ignorance i've done the same to my previously good mate's new/second hand aspire thinking it was the same.

i've put him back to work with a fresh installed xp but some things like the bluetooth don't respond to quickly and basically he'd like me to put it back as it was.

the seller tells us that the recovery image is on the disk i have just wiped and the recovery disks are not the same as my acer's in that they are non bootable. i have 1 system and 2 recovery disks but my mate only has the three non bootable recovery disks.

how do i get the image that is presumably on these disks back onto the hdd?

i'm in big trouble please help.

I dont think you can reimage the recovery disks onto the HDD without using the software used by Acer to image the driver in the factory. Creating a restore partition would require you to create a separate bootable partition which is impossible without the necessary software.

The recovery disks should be bootable. I dont know why the seller states them as non bootable.

thanks miner, sounds fair enough. i thought it should be bootable and mine are although they are named slightly differently to my mates suggesting maybe a different method.

either way i shouldn't have deleted the partitions etc. certainly not before seeing if the discs were as expected. assumptions... mother of all **** ***

i've checked again and neither of the first two discs want to boot. the first disc contains a folder called images and two files called model and rcd.

do these ring any bells with you.

do you think i need to speak to acer?

    thanks again for your experience.

you might actually be better just finding the correct drivers for bluetooth etc, as pretty much everyone says they get better performance without the standard acer install.

Did you wipe the entire disk or is there still a hidden partition? if so it might be possible to get some images off the web? or even off acer?

good luck finding what you need.
but definitely check to see if there are newer drivers for the stuff running slow.

: ) ah! yes! i did completely remove all the partitions.

i was hoping that there was an image on the 3 recovery cds with it that i could reapply somehow but it's not looking likely yet.

ghost did recognise and load the image but at the end when it rebooted to load and install windows it reported invalid partition. i tried to set it to active but it was already active so i failed.

thanks anyway i still have a few options although like you say performance can be improved with a clean install.

    thanks!
