    hello everyone,

I have 2 laptops from acer, one of them is totally broken and i want to recycle it's CPU.

    So I want to place a Core i5 450m into my 4820TG-334G32Mn equipped with a Core i3 330M.

the socket seems to be the same, but when i put the i5 in replacement of the i3, the computer don't want to boot, i have a black screen.

When i put back the i3 everything is fine.

I think that i'm missing a tune, is there any solution to put the i5 450 ?
if not , is there any better cpu than the i3 330 to fit into my 4820TG

    thanks for your help !

Update BIOS first, then upgrade the CPU- 450M might not be recognized.

The I5-450M should work. Let us know what happens after the bios is updated. My Acer was an I3-370M and I upgraded it first to an I5-450M and then an I5-540M.

stankolima the i7 in technology terms is a downgrade 45nm cpu no integrated gpu vs your i5 32nm cpu and igpu at 35w vs the i7 at 45w. I would swap a 740qm for a i5 480m anyday of the weak. The i7 will only be 20% fast and take around 50% more power consumption and heat up and take away probably 1 hour in battery life.
