    Hi,

I restored my Acer Aspire 5720 laptop using the factory restore DVD . I used to be able to press Fn+MJKLUIO78, or Fn+9 to type the numbers 012345678, or 9 while holding the Fn key.

After I finished restore the laptop to the factory image, the Fn+M...9 keys didn't work anymore.

Instead of mapping the keys to 0..9, it mapped the keys to Home, Up, PgUp, Left, Right, End, Down, and PgDn.

So for example, if I press Fn+L, instead of "3", it gave me "PgDn". It was giving me "3" before I restored the factory image.

So recap, I used to be able to hold Fn and I could type the "blue" letters printed on the keyboard.

I don't think this is Vista problem because I boot the laptop to DOS, the keyboard mapping is the same.

I think when I press Alt-F10 to run the recovery, I must have pressed some other hidden key sequence to switch the keyboard profile by accident.

Would you help me to fix the keyboard mapping problem please?

    Thanks!

I use my laptop for software development. I have to install this and install that from MSDN. Microsoft just releases a brand new Visual Studio 2010. I installed that and it messed up all my other installation. The Registry was totally trashed! Like SQL Server 2005 and 2008, and Visual Studio 2005/2008 were all messed up in my laptop.

Assuming that you get the right letters with # and @ etc in the right place then the right country and keyboard defaults are being used. Does an external keyboard number pad work properly?

If it is Ok with an external keyboard and Assuming you have already removed main battery and all other power etc and tried restore BIOS defaults etc you could then try reflashing the same BIOS version you already have or resetting the CMOS by removing or shorting the BIOS battery terminals?

Thanks! I have done all that but none of them works. But I have found the key sequence. The Fn key is working correctly now.
