So I've been trying to get Vista Ultimate to run on my laptop for a while now, and every time I install using a clean installation, it runs painfully slow. If i have more than one window open its not even worth using. So I always run back to XP and I'll be honest in saying that I'm quite bored with it. haha

Anyway, any tips on how to make it run better with Aero?

    My Laptop's Specs Are
    Brand: Acer Extensa 4220
    CPU: Intel Celeron CPU 560 - 2.13GHz
    RAM: 1GB DDR2
    Graphics: Moblie Intel GMA X3100

I mean according to Microsoft's system requirements I should be able to run it just fine... I think haha.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Maybe you guys can give me a little help on correcting me :)

Microsoft stated it of course. That is the minimal specifications to run windows vista.
However, it is MINIMAL. That's why your laptop ran slow on it.

Basically, vista would run nicely on,
    Processor(duo/quad/or above core type Intel/AMD)
Graphic card(a Nvidia/ATI card would be nicer but intel accelerator will do)
RAM u nid 2GB or more.

For you now, the easiest way is upgrade your ram to 3GB.
Processor and Graphic card are expensive and hard to assemble it to the laptop(if you are a professional then you can do it yourself).

My friends have similar problem. After I told him to upgrade thier laptop, the problem gone.

Keep in mind that the GMA X3100 can NOT be upgraded, as it's part of the chipset.
And depending on the chipset, you may be stuck with a Celeron.

I ran Vista HP with only 1gb RAM on an Aspire 9301 for over 12 months and I only realised how slow it was when I came to upgrade the RAM to 2gb. Huge huge difference in performance, particularly start up and shut down, and it stopped disc thrashing due to the page file being in constant use.
To put into perspective, start up was around 2.5 to 3 mins, with around 5 or 6 mins needed before things came responsive. Now with 2gb up and running and online in 1.5 minutes from hitting the power button, no major disc thrashing either, and none at all after a couple of mins.

It's not Vista; it's your laptop (specs). My Extensa 4630 with only 2GB ram and T3200 dual core processor is quite fast with Vista. As others have said, you barely have the minimum requirements to run Vista properly.

if you have the gut's and cash to do it.
    ive seen a 4220 with a pentium duo-core cpu.
ok just phoned mate and this is what he has put in his 4220.
    Pentium Dual Core T2410 SLA4G 2000 MHz 1024 KB 533 MT/s 15x 1.075 - 1.175 V 35 W Socket P Q3 2008 LF80537GE0411M OEM.copied from wiki.

he also has 3gb of ram.
he said it runs like a dream.
you need the latest bios update do that before you insert new cpu.
well if he can do anybody can.
    hope this helps

RAM would be your most cost effective upgrade. Wait for a good online sale or a sale at bestbuy and upgrade to 2GBs.
