    Hi ,

I saw a 2nd hand return unit Acer 5920 for sale , problem is it comes with a bios password which is unknown .

Acer support claimed the only solution is to replace the mobo which sounds extreme , maybe it was just to brush me off as they also sell new notebooks .

I want to stress its not stolen , just a used open box from a store , comes with all the original docs/accessories/reciept etc.

Can anyone help me out here ?

Again I know its a delicate request so if you know for sure it can be done on this model ( maybe you are a better Acer tech ) please just let me know privately without the details that you are willing to help once I'll proof legal ownership .

    Thanks , Gilo .

Why can't the store remove the password or whatever needs to be done?

I'm not sure if laptop's are the same as desktops here, but I would imagine they are pretty simular, is it not just a case of removing the bios battery?

I believe removing the BIOS battery should do the work..Don't we do that in our friends desktops to overcome BIOS passwords

Hoggie , thanks for the info . I hope it will work but I'm not sure as I assume its not the same motherboard .

If anyone has hands on experience with the same model , I'd still like to know for sure .

Meanwhile I found a post somewhere , that Acer charges 100$ for password removal which is better then a motherboard replacement but I have yet to verify that after contacting Acer support this time by email .
