    Hi there,

I have Acer 5672. My DVD-RAM drive (m_a_t_s_h_i_t_a UJ-845) dont read any recorded CD or DVD - only oryginally manufactured CD and DVD.

On the sticker on DVD drive I have:

    m_a_t_s_h_i_t_a UJ-845-C, firmware: d201

    In windows I have:

    m_a_t_s_h_i_t_a UJ-845S, firmware d201

I try to clean optics with special Cleaning CD but still my drive dont read burned CD and DVD. Read only manufactured CD and DVD.

    Anyone can help?

If I need to replace this drive there is "special" replacement or any DVD drive may be fitted? How about Acer OEM limitations for drives and BIOS?

Thank you very much and sorry for my english.

Dell and Apple both used to ship these in 2007/8 Presumably 'not too expensive'
People had just the same problems . .

    Get something else (better).
Odds are the service guide or some kind person here can suggest another alternative drive that was shipped in this series hopefully by LG or Sony-NEC etc
If not you need to start by finding out if it is SATA or ATA, then checking dimensions and screw mounting locations . .

    Hi,
Could be either rotten discs or the laser is going south.

If bad discs can be ruled out then the only solution is to replace the drive by something better.

5 seconds googling this is going to point you to the drive being the problem . . I guess it might be volcano dust though . .

Original posters say that they can read manufactured disks but not written ones . . a laser / optics problem not a drivers /filters problem

Its probably dust in the drive. The only way you can clean it is by buying a cd drive cleaning packet. I remeber they used to sell alot of them, when dell released the m1330, because it was the only way you coul clean a slot loading drive. Try finding one in Best Buy.
