This is all new to me and I don't really understand what is happening maybe someone could clue me in with not so technical terms. Anyway, trying to install on OS on an acer 5100, loads up 50% then I get the BSOD. So following other advice I ran the memtest 3.2 whatever it tests everything came up in red with over 104,000 errors. it hasn't finished yet but what do I need to do to fix all these errors? Buy a new computer?

Most likely you have two RAM memory sticks. Both may be failing but it's more likely that only one is about to go.
Remove one and retest RAM, then swap them and test the other.
Just for the sake of it you may want to check if both memory slots are OK- meaning if one of your RAM sticks is giving you errors in one of the slots and doesn't in the other it may be a mobo that's failing (although that's not very likely).
Anyway- check which one is it (in most cases it's only of RAM sticks dying) remove it and install Windows with half the RAM (and off course buy more RAM when you have a chance)

Ok, make sense. When you say remove a RAM though does that mean from the inside? or can I disable it somehow? Sorry for my ignorance on the subject.

Physically remove one stick. In some cases notebooks don't start when memory is in slot 1 and slot 0 is empty. If this happens just move the RAM stick from slot 1 to slot 0.
