What are the specs of the laptops and the price range? You will be surprised but at least the Acer laptops do come in different configurations so it will be quite in vain to say which one is the best since we don't know which ones we are talking about. For example the GPU in the Acer 5536 can be an Ati 3200 or a 4570. The latter is better for gaming by the way.
Give us the specs and the price and be sure we will tell you which one is the best, at least for gaming.
The quality of the laptops is very good for the price they will be, but since there new editions in the Acer Aspire line not many members will have them. To be honest you won't be disappointed but rather pleasantly surprised with the quality.

i think both of them are available..5536 one has an amd processor, someone told me that amd x2 processor is slower than intel core 2 duo.i read somewhere thatacer laptops have reliabilty issues, that is why i was asking about its quality.both models are available in the range of Rs 35000,that is around $700.

I have the 5536G with an AMD Turion CPU and ATI HD 4570 GPU. I wanted a lapton that could handle casual gaming. So far I have tried a few games in the native resolution (1366 x 768):

-Everquest 2, which is a DX9-game that is stilll considered somewhat demanding for PCs to run. It is CPU-heavy and maxes out both cores. At medium graphics settings (still pretty darn good looking) I get framerates in the 30s running around on my own. Occasional dip to 20 and highs of 45.

    - Spore gives me 30 FPS with all options set to the highest except shadows. Only tried very briefly to see what kind of FPS I got right after the cell stage (first creatures on land, with a small nest).

    - Oblivion: no FPS or graphics settings noted, but it ran :p I just installed it to check if it would run at all. With some tweaking I'm sure it will be playable.

-The new Batman demo. A quick start of the demo just to check FPS at whatever the default settings were gave me about 15 FPS ingame. Cut scenes ran at 30 FPS.

So for light gaming it will be just fine. For me, it's my main gaming rig hehe. The CPU runs hot though. I'm starting a new thread about that shortly. Battery time is around 2 hrs surfing the web with wifi, so not very mobile.

I got it for 5 500 SEK (Swedish currency) which equated to US-prices for PC gear usually is around 550 dollars, so 700 sounds a little pricey.

There is a good review here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Acer-Aspire-5536G-Notebook.17192.0.html

EDIT: On quality: The feel of the keyboard, touchpad and the metal-area around the keyboard/palmresting parts is excellent. I also think the review linked above don't give enough credit to the displays brightness and clarity (can't say much about color representation though). I have really good after-buy feelings. The only negatives are battery time (which I knew about) and the heat when running full throttle (haven't noticed any impact on performance yet).

The place I'm looking at has them at about the same price. On that site 5536G has a ATI 4570 GPU, 4 gigs of ram and a speedier CPU. The 5538G has a ATI 4330 GPU, 3 gigs of ram and a little slower CPU (perhaps more power efficient, don't know, but that should only be marginal). Everything else seems equal.

If you can get them for the same price, the 5536G is without a doubt more value (if configured the same as described above) - everything is stronger faster bigger longer :)

I haven't seen that Asus before. It seems like a very nice laptop. The site I'm looking at says it has a 14" display and 2 GB ram (easily upgradeable to 4) and a little slower CPU and no numpad (smaller keyboard - I like that). Also, Asus claims 6 hrs battery time, which seems extremely optimistic, but it probably has better battery times than the Acer.

My Acer is running very hot, so that might be something to concider as well. I guess all AMD-based laptops do though.

What tipped me over in the direction of Acer was the feel of the laptop: sturdy, nice keyboard and metal palmrest. If the Asus feels good to handle and type on, I would probably have bought that instead. Smaller screen is a plus i my book, but less ram is not.

    Google some reviews!

i have searched a lot and i havnt found any review of k40ab,i think it's a good laptop as screen size is good at 14",which makes it more portable an battery life should be better than acer's. But it lacks few features like express card slot and hdmi output, though i dont think we use them at all.
my friends say that amd processors are not suitable for India as climate here is a bit hot and amd processors will give a lot of problems..Asus dealer is giving 4gb ram and not 2gb..

I am going to send my 5536G back to Acer. It gets too hot: 97 degrees C after 15 minutes of Prime95 (high utilization of the processor). I tried the latest BIOS but that didn't help. Ambient room temp was about 20 degrees. If you are worried about high temps, perhaps a computer with an Intel processor is the way to go.
