The latest version for the 5100 series of acer notebooks is BIOS version 3.05 it can be found at the acer euro FTP located here
You should read this thread to find further instructions on how the process is done. Pay attention to what I said to do because if you don't I will not be held responsible for "bricking" or ruining your notebook. -
whats the v1.30 and the v1.50
-
i just clicked in the flash32.exe is that what i was ment to do and do i need to run it again say if i installed windows on my laptop again
-
how can i tell if the bios update as installed ok and whats the v.1.50 for do i need to install this as well
-
The latest version for the 5100 series as I told you is version 3.05 not 1.50. Acer need to remove versions 1.30 and 1.50 as those versions are very old and mis lead people when they come looking for updates !
No if you reinstall windows the BIOS is unaffected as it is independent of any operating system. The BIOS is what gives your notebook it's core functionality.
Flash32.exe is what has to be run inorder to flash the BIOS inside of windows, then as I said in the thread I linked you to the process will continue on it's own, without any input from you.
As long as you downloaded version BIOS 3.05 and ran flash32.exe from inside that package then your BIOS is up-to-date.
If you want proof that you are running BIOS version 3.05 download and run cpu-z and then check the mainboard tab. If you have the latest BIOS version you should see version "V3.05A". The "A" is there because with the latest version acer updated the BIOS so that you can use the athlon TK-53 processor or any turion x2 with the 5100 series (the A designation is because you have a turion x2). -
so now what is the best and fastest cpu i can now buy for my 5102
and yes if checked its updated the bios ok -
You can buy any turion x2 for your 5102. The 5102's mainboard uses processor socket s1 which would allow you to use any turion x2 (65nm or 90nm) that you choose to. The fastest turion x2 on the market right now is the TL-66(2.3Ghz), however that will cost quite a bit of $$ right now. You can maybe look for a TL-60(2Ghz)...but this is up to you.

yes i was thinking of the tl-60 its half the price of the tl-66 and not that much slower
need help updating bios on 5102
