Ive been having playing my games thought, every time I play my driver crashes.
so i try to update my nvidia driver which the laptop came with, now i go to nvidia scan my driver and says i got to download the update from acer. So i look for it and i search for it...downloading the setup...and i extract it...and two files are corrupt...Kinda got me so mad lol...anyways, is that happening for anyone else or the site is down or something any tips or advice would be nice.
If your wondering what game its call of duty 4.

Hey, Awake! Welcome to the NBR forums!
The 6920G can use a wide number of drivers - take a look at the list here.
I know that the stock driver 174.51 crashed an awful lot - moving to 175.61 or newer should fix that.

The funny thing is that each Nvidia driver performs differently. If you have access to benchmarking software like 3DMark06 you can test to see which is best. Otherwise, just trial-and-error.
I did a small test back here, and I've got plans/schemes to do a larger-scale one in the near future.
I haven't tested 176.92 yet, nor any drivers that don't have WHQL certification (all the ones in my comparison and the link I sent you have it - it's necessary for Blu-ray playback).

My personal recommendations would be either 175.61 (great HDR performance if you use it) or any 176 driver (I'm using 176.26 myself).

    It's 17 5.61, Awake. Get it right! ;)
Updating the driver can improve performance in certain games, or fix bugs in others. And like I said, performance varies from driver to driver.

The setup.exe has never failed for me. But you can always use the Programs & Features panel to uninstall it, or System Restore back to a point where you had the original. Backups are handy to have around - do you?

Edit: What did yo mean by the 6920g can use many different drivers, you saying i can use any aspire driver?

Well, not exactly the same notebook. I did upgrade my CPU. ;)
The difference between the 6920 and 6920G is the GeForce 9500M GS - namely, the 6920G has it and the 6920 doesn't (it's stuck with the Intel GMA X3100).

I meant that a bunch of the drivers Acer has released for other models are also compatible with the 6920G without the need for a modified INF (install information - tells the driver whether or not your machine is compatible).
Check out this topic for what I was able to dredge up from the depths of the Acer FTP - all are compatible with the 6920G.

As for the rest, you can use the Modded INF provided by LaptopVideo2Go.com and install just about ANY Nvidia driver released by ANYONE on your system. That makes the decision of which driver to get a little daunting. Until you know EXACTLY what you're doing, I'd stick with the Acer releases.

CPU = Central Processing Unit = Processor = Intel Core 2 Duo Whatever.

I'm no expert with CoD, but I do know that TF2 likes having ports open on my firewall in order to communicate better (I had lag spikes too). Visit the CoD website to see which ports to open on your firewall - no need to disable the whole darn thing!

Just do not open everyport, or I think you can allow them to be opened only for certain application.

Exactly what matmat said - just open the ones specifically used by CoD, not all of them.
According to Wikipedia, CoD4 uses only port 28961 - add that to your firewall's exception list and you should be fine.

Well, it depends on what firewall program you're using. Go look in the Help files to see how.

    Mainfold, welcome to the forums!
The screen-freeze-driver-crash is also caused by GPU instability caused by overclocking.
You wouldn't happen to do that, would you?
