I have an Aspire 1640Z that I managed to install Windows 7 on for some testing. I want to wipe it completely and go back to XP Home, using the key on the sticker on the bottom. Trouble is I don't have the recovery CD.

I tried to use a Windows XP Home CD a co-worker had, it starts the setup process, analyzes the drive, starts setup and then blue screens. I've spent a lot of time researching this and usually I read people saying put the HD into compatibility IDE mode, if it's SATA, to get through the install. Trouble is this one isn't SATA and the hard drive settings aren't configurable at all in the BIOS. Plus it is blue screening right after analyzing the drive, so I don't think that's the issue.

Someone else suggested slipstreaming SP3 into my Win XP media -- AutoStream didn't recognize my XP install CD and kept crashing.

Also tried to look for an official original Acer Aspire 1640Z recovery CD, can't get one from Acer anymore, can't find any on EBay. If you have one, perhaps send me a private message, I don't want/need your key.

I am out of ideas, if you have any please do share!!

    Thanks!!
