i just did a windows update and noticed that under the optional components was a driver for the Atheros5007EG WiFi driver... not sure what changes are,, but i have installed it and rebooted.... seems to work fine... maybe now it supports WPA2??

maybe this will bring a little help to all the people struggling w/ finding a working driver for the Atheros WiFi!

thought you might need to know,

do you have a driver installed for the 5007 now??

if so just do a windows update and choose CUSTOM instead of express then look in the HARDWARE tab on the left of the main window.... in there you should see the update to the driver (i got it straight from windows update) not sure if there is a standalone version of this revison,,

if you don't have any driver installed the download this::

    http://mytopfiles.com/archives/file/Wireless_Atheros_V5-3-0-67_XP_XB63_XB62(WHQL)/215509.htm

install it,, then do the windows update.... that should get you the newest version...

    later,

Hi there. In the device manager it says the device is working properly. If I go to up date it, it tells me it has the latest driver. I have also gone to "Start" -"Run"- (Typed in) "services.msc" and checked that it is on and set to automatic.....In the bottom right of my desk top there are still small red cross' next to the wireless icon's....Beats me...?

i'm no network expert... but mine showed the RED X even until i picked a network from the available networks list and then connected to it...

i had trouble w/ mine using WPA.... just wondering are you trying to connect to an "OPEN" connection, or is it using some type of protection??

in order to update the drivers you may try installing the version listed in post #5... besure to reboot,, then do a CUSTOM windows update... see if that has any effect.

i am also using this version of the Atheros Client Utility software
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=238552

it might help,, it has a good help section with loads of info

NEW DRIVERS at the top of the first post.... i'm currently using the NEWEST XP driver listed there...

i need to reboot to test further,,, just replaced the version from windows update....

    later
    bigozone

    UPDATE:
after upgrading to v7.6.0.200 and rebooting i had no WIFI... checked device manager.... it said no driver was loaded.. so i picked the second AR5007EG instead of the first one....... driver loaded and WIFI came back immediatley after file copys...

so my experience is GOOD.... GREAT infact... i noticed a jump from very low to VERY GOOD just from updating this driver (i share a DSL connection w/ my neighbor 200' away and using a Dlink 514+ router 802.11B only) not bad for B at 200' away ... i'll post any further experiences good or bad as they occur.
