My friend as just bought an Acer Aspire Travelmate 5730 running WinVista.
We set up the laptop yesterday and burned 6 recovery discs in case anything goes wrong with the laptop.
I dont know much about laptops and with my pc ive always had the operating system on a cd so i could fix any problem using the cd.
This laptop as a 250gb HDD when i looked on the computer this HDD appears to have two partitions on it Cdrive that you boot upto then the other drive i think must be a back up drive.
The back up drive seems to take up 50% of the HDD this seems to be a large chunk of the HDD or is there somthing im misunderstanding here.
I also set up a wireless connection for this laptop there's no problem connecting to the internet while'st in the same room as the router but can't connect from a different room this defeats the object of a wireless connection.
Any help on these problems would be much appreciated.

The partition that you're seeing is there to store files in case of the need to reinstall the OS on the main partition so it won't be wiped. I never really used it so I deleted the volume and made the main partition larger. As for wireless, it could be a number of thing such as a weak router or a screwed up wireless card or that you have horribly thick insulation.

What i dont understand is they dont supply you with a disc with the O/S on so what do you do when your in a situation where you need to reinstall the O/S
Thanks again jhadd -

So the cds that i have burned there are 6 in total these will enable me to reisntal vista if need be.
Thanks again jhadd1 -
Hopefully you will never need them. Be sure to number them so you know which is which.
The D partition is used to store backups on... ones that you make using Acers ERecovery utility... it's much like Acronis true image. Get into the habit of using it.
Also make sure your wireless card isn't in any power saving mode etc... read the manualnot sure if Acers own utility "overides" Vista's own powersaving setup options.
