    Hi,
I have a acer travelmate 2310 which I shut the lid rather hard in temper and I think I may of 'killed' the hard drive as in the bios info HHd model name and serial number are blank. I can get up the Acer page then nothing unless I go into the Bios which I have full access in but when I leave I am back on the Acer page. I did manage to get an Acer Recovery page but it just hung.
I made back up discs when I brought the laptop, if I replace the hard drive will I be able to use these discs to install the operating system?

If you slammed the lid hard enough while the hard drive is running, you might have killed the drive.

Have you tried reseating the drive? It might just have been knocked loose.

I will try reseating the drive, but if it doesn't work will the back up discs I made, when it was new, have the operating system on them? I've still got the product key label if I need to register the system but it was preloaded on the laptop and I didn't get a disc.

The backup discs should restore the operating system. I don't know if it has to be re-registered since I've never had to do this, but I don't think so.

When you go to reseat the hard drive you might as well reseat anything else that could have been knocked loose (RAM, wifi card).

"No operating system found" is a common fake message displayed when the hd is encrypted. According to your story this isn't the case, but if you bought the laptop from someone else you'll need to reformat it to use the hd again.

I would actually take the HDD out and put it back again to see if it makes any diffrence.
