    Do you have recovery partition?

    If it's yes ......

Make sure to enable D2D recovery option from BIOS

    foot note from handbook.

Note: Select 1. Factory default image when you want to burn a
bootable disk that contains your computer's entire operating
system as it was delivered to you from the factory. If you wish to
have a disk that will allow you to browse the contents and install
selected drivers and applications, select 2. Application CD — this
    disk will not be bootable.

    Here is a solution :)

    create a folder:

    C:\Acer\Preload\Autorun

    That's it :)

Let me know if it fails ;)

[EDIT] If a system has a clean install of an OS and Partitions have altered. In order to install eRecovery:

    eRecovery Installation requires:

    Factory Default Image Located: \D2D\IMAGES
    Acer Bootable File: ACERBOOT.ISO
    Patch Disc (folder exist): \D2D\PATCH
    Software Disc (folder exist): C:\Acer\Preload\Autorun
    Hidden Partition Lable: PQSERVICE

    Folders can be empty.

\D2D\IMAGES & \D2D\PATCH are located root of PQSERVICE Partition. Patch can be empty but must exist.

\D2D\IMAGES must contain files the name of which will be found in ImageInfo.dat

    I used 3 files
    POP0100M04EN0C21.000
    POP0100M04EN0C21.WSI
    POP0100M04EN0C210000.DSI

and edited the ImageInfo.dat file from ImageCount=145 to ImageCount=1 (ie 1 file .000)

All files are place holder empty content files (renamed txt files)

The ImageInfo.dat file should also exist but contain valid restore image info.

C:\Acer\Preload\Autorun is located on C, your working Vista drive

All other files and folders are located in PQSERVICE which can be accessable with ID changed.

To work correctly eRecovery will require correct files in these location (Factory Backup will not work)

    [/EDIT]

    [EDIT]
    Doesn't work!
    Wont burn backup cd/dvd's
and will only restore to the second partition regardless of the source backup

    [/EDIT]

I have acer aspire 4920 laptop … after I formatted my machine and created new partitions (C,D,E). When I tried to re install acer eRecovery file I got this message: "Not D2D system eRecovery cannot be installed "

When I tried to use my factory default DVD which I burned earlier, but faild due to corrupted image file (S1E4X405.066 )

I would be very grateful should any generous person send me this file.
This file is about 50 mb and requires to be uploaded to a website where I can download from.

If you have acer aspire 4920 factoury default DVD or CD you can find this file in the "IMAGE" folder.

    Many thanks and regards

Ok I have an Acer Aspire 5610. Somehow the e/recovery partition is messed up.
I want to recreate it seeing as how nothing else has worked.
I am attaching images of the CD/DVD's directories.

Perhaps some of the more techie people here can help me out with this.

3 CD/DVD's 1st one is boot system disc
2nd one is data and image files of 49.9MB each
Last cd is image files too but only 4 or 5.
STCDBOOT.ISO is part of system disk and was burned as an iso file toi reveal other files and folders.

    Any help out there?

Hello, my problem is not almost similar to the posts.

I have a Timeline 5810T, sometime last month, the original hard drive crashed, I had no choice but to replace it, I purchased a new hard drive with the same specifications and capacity, I installed the new hard drive, I thought that everything would be as easy as replace and reinstall because I have the factory image DVD that I burned when I first got the system.

So, what I did after reinstalling the new HDD, i turned on the system, went into the BIOS to make sure that the optical drive is the first boot option, I put the first factory image DVD disc in the disc drive and restarted the system. I thought everything would go smoothly because the system initialized and copied files from the 2 DVD factory image discs but after the system copied the files from the DVDs and restarted to start the installation, I encountered a screen that says "Windows cannot be installed on this system, you may need to restart the installation" I thought that it's just a sudden error so I repeated the steps I did, I inserted Disc 1 then turned of my computer and turned it on again, then the initializing and copying process successfully passed and after restarting the same window appeared saying the windows cannot be installed on this system.

Is there any way to restore my 5810T system to the original factory image after replacing my hard drive? the hard drive was the only thing that changed in the whole system components, do I need to format the hard drive first before installing it to the system and before using it with the restoration discs?

I have contacted several Acer support sites from different regions but no luck in getting a decent reply, most replies I received are system generated auto reply and some support sites don't even bother to reply at all. I like the notebook very much but Acer support site really sucks compared to Dell, HP and Toshiba.

    Can somebody help me?

So far this is what I have found out from Acer
    http://support.acer-euro.com/faqs/search.html?Query=eRecovery :(

I'm hving ther same luck as you. Acer probably won't help without sending the unit back to them. So far on the web I have found nothing of significant help to re-create the pqservice partition.

If you still have your old hard drive and can put it back into the system, Boot on a CD that lets you look at the hard drive. You may be able to back up the
hidden pqservice partitiona nd then restore it onto your new drive.
There are seveal tools online to do that with, the biggest issue you will face is lkely to be that the hard drive is deader than a door nail and nothing can be retrieved from it.
If however you CAN get the partition backed up to a dvd or CD or even a memory stick you have a shot. Thr nrxt issue you will need ot face is creating the exact drive partitioning scheme on the new drive.

I failed to make a backup of the pqservice partition without realizing how vital it was.

My system still works because my system CD's do restore the OS bu tnot the factory pqservice partition. :(

Thank you for the enlighting info about PQservice, unfortunately it's too late for me to know about this because I thought that the factory image discs created by my system would do the process smoothly, anyway, this will have to be charged to experience and I'll just do the pqservice backup the next time i purchase a new computer system...

I like this 5810T very much, but after all the unhappy experiences I had with Acer after sales support (by the way, I didn't get any hahaha) I'm thinking of buying a new notebook from HP sometime in March or April for my graphics and work related usage, they have new good model line-up at reasonable prices too specially now that quad cores, i5 and i7 processors systems with higher multimedia feature systems are coming out from their line of Pavilion DV series, and at least they have pretty much better after sales technical support than Acer.
