One quick way to find out. Disable Norton for a short time and see if the problem goes away. Then re-enable Norton and see if the problem comes back.
Also, be sure you have your network connection set up correctly. I've had issues when I've not put the proper SSID in. It would connect and disconnect similarly to your problem. -
I'll look at the network connection and the ssid (which is what???
) but I will disable or even uninstall norton to see if that stops it

Do you use wireless internet through a router with your notebook?
SSID is the name of a wireless network. -
Sounds like a software problem. Install firefox and see if that works. I would guess that you have some malware attached to IE.
-
I connect right to the dsl box...
ah that's why SSID sounds familiar... I've come acrss it... -
will give that a shot thanks
btw what's malware?? -
if I upload firefox would I lose anything if I were to unistall it??
-
When you install Firefox, it will ask if you want to import your favorites from IE. You can do that and not cause any problems with them. They will just show up in firefox. If you add new ones to firefox, they will not cross over to IE and if you were to uninstall firefox, those new favorites/bookmarks would be gone an you would have to re-find them with IE.

how comparable is firefox to IE??? is it a better option?
-
Hi, IMHO no Firefox isn't a better option, it has tabs, but that's over stated, see here http://mywebpages.comcast.net/SupportCD/FirefoxMyths.html

Depends on your definition of better. I prefer FF to IE. Primarily because of how FF does tabbed browsing. It is a great innovation and in my opinion done right. MS is testing out tabbed browsing, and I think it stinks, done wrong. Some will tell you FF is more secure. I don't know if it really is or not. It isn't being attacked by hackers like IE, but that may just be because a hacker gets more bang for his time by attacking IE.
not sure if acer problem...
